• The lockdown is lifted and teams are ready to resume hostilities as Archerfield Speedway fires up for a mid-week Sprintcar showcase this Wednesday night (January 13) featuring round four of the Super Seven Series proudly presented by Titan Garages, along with a big support program comprising round six of the TFH Midget Series, Wingless Sprints, AMCA Nationals, Lightning Sprints and Formula 500 Juniors. NOTE - for Updated List of nominations please see our website homepage: www.brisbanespeedway.com.au (SCW has a current issue with the noms portal)

With Super Seven rounds scheduled for Archerfield (Friday/Saturday) and Lismore (Tuesday) cancelled as a result of the sudden lockdown imposed across the greater Brisbane region, only two rounds remain in the championship that currently sees Lachlan McHugh sitting atop the series standings.

Leading the opening round before rain intervened, McHugh went on to win the next two rounds at Archerfield and Maryborough respectively and he currently holds a 149-point point advantage over Marcus Dumesny, who is 77 points clear of third-placed Luke Oldfield. However, with upwards of 350 points on offer at each of the remaining rounds, both Dumesny and Oldfield are poised to pounce should McHugh falter.

Next best in the standings at the moment are Kevin Titman, Cody Maroske, Callum Walker, Taylor Prosser and Ryan McNamara and, whilst it would take the most miraculous course of events to unfold for any of these to win the series, rest assured they will still be determined to secure the $5000 on offer to the feature race winner whilst boosting their overall championship position in the process.

Whilst not in contention for Super Seven Series honours, current Archerfield track champion Aaron Kelly certainly might prove a spoiler on Wednesday on the back of some very strong showings in recent outings, with others such as Allan Woods, Brent Kratzmann and Jayden Peacock also capable featuring prominently in proceedings.

Whilst a mid-week rescheduling was always going to prove problematic for some competitors, the Midget field is a little smaller but has been strengthened by the inclusion of five-time New Zealand champion Michael Kendall aboard the Ian Boettcher Race Parts #35. Kendall, who in seasons past was the dominant figure in local Midget racing, has been biding his time in Compact Speedcar competition of late and his return to the Midget ranks to take on TFH Series frontrunners Rusty Whittaker, Darren Vine, Brad Dawson and another dozen daredevils is very much anticipated.

Nothing much changes in the Wingless Sprint world with last start feature winner Lachlan Robertson leading the locals into battle against those travelling from south of the border. Most likely to offer Robertson the strongest support in his efforts to deny the southerners a place on the podium will be the likes of Liam Atkinson, Paul Robinson and Jayden O’Toole, while Michael Butcher comes as the best credentialed of an interstate contingent that is understandably reduced as a result of the rescheduling.

With Steve Potts, Bruce Marshall, Steve Price, Matt Hardy, Thomas Vickery, Nathan Tomkins and Lee McKinnell having all confirmed their commitment to the event, the AMCA National action will certainly not suffer as a result of the date change. With Potts (x2) and Marshall the only drivers in the field to taste feature race success at Archerfield so far this season, the racing will be ferocious with so many potential winners in the field.

Lightning Sprints and Formula 500 Juniors complete the program, which gets underway with early racing from 5.00pm, with the main program launching from 6.00pm. Pit gates and the main gates for online ticket holders open at 2.00pm. The general admission ticket box will open at 3.30pm. This is a RESERVED TICKETED EVENT for grandstand and bleacher seating. Please note that, in accordance with the latest Queensland COVID-19 Health Directive, every second row of the grandstand and bleacher seating has been blocked out and all patrons must remain in their allocated seat throughout the night. Furthermore, all attendees must be wearing a mask when entering and leaving the venue and when moving around the grounds.
