• Although it was his first show for the season, Luke Nardini showed no signs of racing rust as helast night claimed the win at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway in what was Round Four of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series, proudly presented by Opal Finance.
Nardini was strong through the night, recording a win and a second place in his two heats to be equal top points with former WA Champion Glenn Carstairs, with Carstairs getting the best of the battle in the pole shootout to claim pole for the twenty lap feature.
As the race got underway Carstairs would grab the lead with Luke Nardini settling into second and Cody Turacchio in third.
With two laps complete the yellows lights would come on for an incident that would ultimately see Jeff Ross, Mark House, Troy Samwell and Tyler Carter on the infield.
Carstairs would lead away the remaining sixteen cars on the restart, Nardini and Turacchio still second and third respectively while Chris Dymock in fourth and Jamie Nardini rounded out the top five.
Steven Ellement would then move into the top five a lap later, then into fourth on lap seven as Dymock began to drop through the field with an earth wire breaking.
On lap eight Carstairs would set the quickest lap of the race but unfortunately for him it would all come undone with eight laps complete, something appearing to break in the car that saw him turn hard right and crash heavily.
He would be unable to restart, as would State Champion Steven Ellement, seeing Luke Nardini now leading the field away with Turacchio in second and Jamie Nardini in third.
The race would resume from here for the remaining twelve laps, with Turacchio hounding Nardini for the lead and eventually grabbing it on lap twelve. Nardini however wouldn’t give up, pursuing Turacchio and making the pass to retake the lead with just four laps to go.
Try as he might, Turacchio was unable to get back by, with Luke Nardini going on to take a strong win ahead of Turacchio and Jamie Nardini. Ryan Higgs and Brendon Marshman would round out the top five while Brendan Wright, Steve Carter, Jacob Priest, 39 Amy Waldron, 46 Jake Pobjoy Graham Haynes and a slowly circulating Chris Dymock rounding out the finishers.
Courtesy of the nights results, Ryan Higgs is still the leader of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series after four rounds, with Steve Carter still second, having previously played their Ace Cards. Dymock holds down third while Matt Brown was the only to play his Ace Card last night which ultimately didn’t pay off as he failed to start the B Main.
The Formula 500’s will now have a break for a few weeks over the festive period before heading to the Perth Motorplex for the first time this season on Boxing Day. The fifth round of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series, proudly presented by TRS HD Mechanical, will then be held at the Manjimup Speedway on the 2nd of January.

    Great Battle Between Juniors!
As has been the case each and every time they hit the track, the Junior Formula 500’s put on another great show last night, this time at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway, with the show proudly presented by Mick and Leticia from HTEC Bunbury.
Excitingly, of the four Juniors on hand last night, three of them scored race wins, such was the quality of competition.
The opening heat saw the most experienced driver of the quartet, Flynn Roser, race away and take the win, but only just as Rhys Cumming pressured him all the way to the line in what would be the closest finish for the night, while Marcus Pages and Lauren Hedington rounded out the finishers.
With just a short turn around between heats, the drivers were scrambling to be ready, but all made it out onto the track for the second heat, with Marcus Pages eventually recording the convincing win over Flynn Roser by over five seconds while Rhys Cumming and Lauren Hedington rounded out the finishers.
Heat Three was looking to be a repeat of the second, but unfortunately Roser was unableto complete the distance, seeing Pages record his second win for the night with Cumming in second and Hedington continuing her learning curve coming home in third place.
The ten lap final was set to be a good one and the Juniors certainly didn’t disappoint, Cumming racing into the lead immediately, followed by Pages, Roser and Hedington.
As the race progressed the group got faster and faster, Cumming recording his fastest lap of the race on his second last circulation. Cumming would go on to record a solid victory in what was his first night of competition, some ten seconds ahead of second placed Pages, while Roser and Hedington rounded out the field.
Congratulations to all our Junior drivers for again putting on a great show, even showing the Seniors how to do it throughout the night, the group not having a single stoppage during their four races on the night.
Again, a big thankyou to Mick and Leticia from HTEC Bunbury who supported the Juniors last night and ensured that none of them went home empty handed.
We look forward to seeing the Junior back on track as part of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series at the next show!
