• Barry Rose narrowly missed winning his fifth Collie Speedway Production Sedan Championship on Saturday night at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway, when he was beaten by two time and current Victorian Champion, Beau Riley.

The duo have had a great rivalry established in recent seasons, with Riley starting the main event on pole, while Wayne Leviston would start on his outside, with Rose starting from position four.

Rose found himself in second place on lap three, and the battle then began, ultimately coming down to the last lap.

The placings remained close with a couple of stoppages through the race, one notably when Rickie Nuccini lost a wheel on lap five and then another when Benny Curtin blew up on lap ten. On lap fourteen, Nicholas Porter lost a wheel, setting up a thrilling final six laps.

Rose got under Riley on turn four with a lap to go, taking the lead for the first time in the race. Riley fought back though, taking the lead on the back straight, to defeat Rose by a car length. Peter Huntjens finished third.

For Rose, it was his second time as a runner-up in the event, and seventh time on the podium from eight attempts.
