Bryden Southwell is on track to fulfill his goal of finishing in the top five, after the opening night of the West Australian Junior Sedan Title on Saturday night, with Southwell sitting third on points heading into tonights main events.

Southwell, who last week won the B Main in the National Title, and then charged through the field to finish eighth, drove brilliantly on the night one of the State Title, passing plenty of his competitors on the outside.

In Southwells opening heat, he would start of position seven, but was able to move to third after the opening lap, with some great passing moves on the outside. He would then set out after early leader, Dean Schofield and Beau Oldfield, with Oldfield taking the lead at the mid point of the race, ultimately breaking the track record. Southwell closed in on Schofield late but would have to be content with third.

Southwell would replicate what he did in the opening heat, passing almost the entire field on the outside, after starting of the back row. After two laps, the winner of last weeks B Main had moved to second place, but eventual winner Izzac Delaporte was too far in front, with Southwell finishing well clear of third placed Jared Coutts.

Heat twelve would see Southwell start on pole, taking the win in a thilling finish. Southwell drove a mean line, giving no opportunities to Blake Iwanow and Rory Elsum-Beaumont to pass, with the three separated by just 0.711 as they crossed the line.

“We are definitely not changing a thing on the car, it is working mint”, said Southwell

Racing commences again tonight at 6.00pm WST

Southwell will come up against Drew Flatman and Jye Irving in his final qualifying heat, with Flatman currently fifth on points and Irving fourteenth.
