  • It is going to be a long way back for Kodee Brown, after mechanical woes stopped the former National Champion for taking part in Qualifying and his first heat race at the Perth Motorplex on Wednesday night, the opening night of the Australian Late Model Championship.

    A fuel pump was the issue for Brown who was due to be one of the last drivers to compete in official qualifying, and subsequently by the time he got back to the pit paddock, there was not enough time for it to be changed before the opening qualifying heat.

    Brown would contest the final qualifying heat of the night, heat eight, starting from the back of the field, and would make great progress, finishing fifth, eight seconds behind winner Jamie Oldfield.

    Subsequently, Brown would be off the back of the field in the second preliminary A Main and put in a great drive, passing half of the field in the first eight laps of the race. Several minor stoppages kept Brown in touch there-after, moving to seventh on lap thirteen at the expense of Ryan Halliday, before being involved in a great battle with David Nylander and Hayden Ross from the United States in the concluding stages.

    In a great move on the outside, Brown passed both with a lap remaining to finish fifth after starting at the back of the field, picking up crucial points.

    Despite this, Brown is officially last on points, obtaining no points in qualifying or the opening heat race, which will make it incredibly hard for Brown to qualify for the A Main. With one heat race remaining, Brown is destined for a B Main start on Saturday night and will have to replicate his Preliminary A Main performance to advance to the Australian Final.
