Gary Higgs has finished eighth tonight at the Mothar Mountain Speedway in Gympie, which was round two of the three consecutive nights of the Super Sedan Summer Slam Series.

The A Main over forty laps was again won by National Champion Matt Pascoe with Higgs finishing a credible eighth, making up spots late in the race.

Higgs finished third in his opening round heat, followed by a fifth, but it was the last heat which had the West Australian chasing his tail for the remainder of the night, with contact with another car, seeing Higgs hit the fence. Higgs would finish fifth, but would do some damage to the car, forcing the crew into overdrive, to have the car ready for the A Main.

To their credit the car did make the main event, with Higgs starting out of position twelve for the second night decider.

A stoppage on the second lap took out two drivers at the front of the field, elevating Higgs to position ten, however, in a tightly contested race, after seven laps Higgs would be back in eleventh place. The second stoppage of the race occurred on lap seventeen, which bunched the field nearing half way, with Higgs able to make up to more positions to move to ninth.

With fifteen laps to go, Higgs put in his quickest lap of the race and in doing so passed Kyall Fisher, after the pair had a great battle for the best part of the race. With ten laps remaining Higgs would pass Bob McCosker to move to eighth, but he would be half a lap behind Pascoe and second placed Sean Black.

With eight laps remaining, that large lead was evaporated by a stoppage, while the cautions come on again on the last lap, setting up a green, white, chequered flag finish, putting the race into overtime. Higgs would try desperately to pass Sam Grundy in the final laps but was unable to do so.

Matt Pascoe went on to win consecutive Feature Races in the Summer Slam, his fifth of the season and 58th career win this decade.
Racing continues tomorrow night (Saturday) at the Ausdec Patios Archerfield Speedway with the final round of the Summer Slam.
