• The Avon Valley Speedway officially has new owners as of today, with a new consortium, Northam Motorplex Pty Ltd purchasing the facility.

Avon Valley Speedway Pty Ltd has been purchased by Northam Motorplex Pty Ltd, a Company owned by Rick Musarra’s family, a well known name in Speedway Sedan racing in Western Australia.

It is envisaged that a plan be developed to improve the venue into a modern motorsport facility.

It is expected that this plan will take time and would expect that no events will be held in the next twelve months while the facility is improved to a standard that will be suitable for both competitors and spectators alike.

“I am thrilled to be able to make this announcement today” said Musarra. “This is obviously a big investment on our part, and I would like to thank the Northam Shire for their support in getting it to this stage, where we can announce the purchase”, he added.

“There would obviously be many people who might be sceptical about the new venture, with the venue having cancelled more events than it conducted in recent years, hence why we are going to get the facility upgraded to a point, where both competitors and spectators will want to come the venue”, Musarra added.

The venue is also being backed by Multiple National and State Street Stock Champion, Jamie Oldfield, who will be part of the promotional arm of the organisation.

“It has been a long road to get to this point, but it will be worth it, when we finish the developments we plan to make to the Speedway and surrounds, before racing recommences”, Oldfield said.

“The venue will be a full Speedway Australia venue, and obviously we will need to earn our stripes, to gain the confidence of the Speedway public, but that is what we fully intend to do”, Oldfield added.

A new Website and Facebook page will be launched in due course, with highly respected Speedway Journalist Jason Crowe taking charge of the media.

The new consortium have been able to obtain a lease from the Shire of Northam sufficient to see the facility flourish in the medium to long term.
