• It was a tough night at the office for Adrian Haywood when he contested the 38th running of the Scardifields Smash Repairs King of Wings, at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday night before a big crowd.

With in excess of twenty Sprintcars, qualifying would be key to a good night, with Haywood having his qualifying mid session, setting a time of 14.546, which ultimately would be the sixteenth quickest time.

In Haywood’s opening heat race, the Plus Fitness 24/7 Halls Head, Thorny Devil Craft Beer & Cider W88 would start out of position eight, with a strong line-up of drivers including Jason Pryde, Callum Williamson, Shaun Bradford, Jason Kendrick and Andrew Priolo starting in front of Haywood. In the early exchanges Haywood would have a good battle with Jamie Oldfield and Kris Coyle with the duo both passing Haywood at different stages, before Haywood got the better of both of them to move to sixth on lap three, a position he would hold till the chequered flag.

In Haywood’s second and final qualifying heat, Haywood would start on the second row and would be involved in a battle for third place with Tom Callaghan and Ben Ellement, but struggled to pass Callaghan in the early stages, losing momentum and was quickly rounded up by Shaun Bradford and Jason Kendrick, eventually finishing ninth.

“Yeah we should have stayed on the top, but I went to the bottom, we washed off some speed trying to pass Tom”, Haywood said.

It didn’t go well either in the 40-lap A Main, with Haywood starting from the eighth row in the nineteen car field. Unfortunately, Haywood spun in pits bend, leaving Aldo De Paoli no where to go, with the pair making contact, eliminating Haywood from the race after just one lap.

“I really would like to apologise to Aldo, he was able to race on, but he did a bit a damage to his headers. Big shout out to everyone who helped on the car, it was a tough night, it sucks, but that’s Motorsport, it can also be good, when it’s good”, he said.

“A big thanks also to Ewen from Country Rugs in Mandurah who supported us, it was greatly appreciated”.

Haywood will next hit the track on Thursday, 26 December 2019, with the Boxing Day Bonanza at the Perth Motorplex.
