• Speedway is back this Sunday night (September 30) at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway as the venue kicks off it’s 60th Anniversary Season with an all sections season opener that will proudly be supported local business Moore Mechanical. With six racing categories on the program the pits will be jammed with over 70 of the best local Speedway competitors and with the night to be concluded with a massive U-Pull-It Demolition Derby the season opener will feature something for all motorsport enthusiasts.

The opening night of the South Australian Speedway season will feature Wingless Sprints, Super Sedans, Formula 500’s, Street Stocks, AMCA Nationals and Junior Sedans with the Wingless Sprints, Formula 500’s and Street Stocks producing strong nomination lists.

In the open wheeled categories an impressive list of 16 drivers have indicated that will take to the track in the Wingless Sprints with a similar number in the Formula 500’s. The Wingless list features several potential A-Main winners including recent Aussie Racing Cars event winner Joel Heinrich, Matthew Kennedy, Jack McCarthy, Jake Ashworth, Jordan Bolitho and regular 360ci Sprintcar racer Cody Atkins. An encouraging aspect of the line-up is the number of rookies with six drivers making their category debut including 3 young female racers. While the Formula 500’s will be out in force with drivers from right across the state set to battle it out for the first main event win of the season with Angelo Karoussis, Brad Stell, Patrick Merrett, Dean Cottrell, Richard Schmidt and Ross Miller among the likely front runners.

Fans of the Sedan categories will also be in for a treat with good numbers expected including a field of 8 Super Sedans, which is one of the biggest opening night fields seen for several years. The racing in the V8 class should be quite entertaining with Ryan Alexander set to take on local hero Paul Blenkiron, Kym Jury, Steve Schwartz, veteran Kym Cottrell, Kym Leyson, Robert Uren and Jason Gantz, who should be full of confidence after dominating the South Australian 2017/18 season ending event at Waikerie.

A field of close to 20 Street Stocks competitors will take to the 360-metre venue with multiple Track Champion Nigel Reichstein headlining the field along with Steve Heinrich, Steve Gartner, Matt Maynard, Darren Brumfield and Phil Watson. Over the past few seasons the Street Stocks have produced some outstanding door to door racing at Murray Bridge and the season opener shouldn’t be any different. A small field of Junior Sedans will also be present along with the AMCA Nationals. Despite the small number of AMCA Nationals competitors the list is still very competitive with Australian Champion Jeremy Moore taking on Jake Armstrong and Jason Robinson.

In addition to the on-track action there will be plenty of extra entertainment throughout the night with the live action and replays set to be displayed on the Zambrero Giant Video Screen, that will be located in turn three, Super Sedan SA will be giving out “Show Bags, the souvenir stand will be open and of course the U-Pull-It Demolition Derby. So why not make it a great long weekend with a visit to the Speedway this Sunday Night.
