• Teenage Australian driving prodigy Kayla Green is set to further her experience in the tough world of sprintcar racing.
The Californian-based Green – daughter of ace crew chief Darryl ‘Mouse’ Green and niece of past Australian racing great Trevor Green and leading administrator Steven Green – is set for a three-week driving stint with World of Outlaws legend Danny Smith.
Earlier this week, Kayla flew out of Sacremento bound for Ohio where she will pilot a second 410ci car for Smith.
Her first race will be this Friday at Jackson Speedway before tackling the high banked Atomic Speedway on Saturday.
The venture will continue an lasting association between the legendary Smith and Green Brothers Racing (GBR).
“Danny Smith filled in for GBN during the 2009-10 Australian season when I was injured,” reflected past Grand Annual Classic winner and multiple Scott Darley Challenge victor Trevor Green.
“The following season the roles were reversed as I substituted for Danny in the American season when suffered his own serious back injury.
“Danny also returned to run a second car for our team Down Under in 2012 under the support of the LPS group.
“This situation again displays the character of Danny.
“When he first came to Australia, he raced for Dave Ferrall and recently he had Dave’s son Chris drive his car.
“Now he is giving Kayla a fantastic opportunity to further her skills in Ohio, and our entire family is so extremely grateful for his assistance.
“Danny has kept a keen interest on Kayla’s progress over the past few years, so it’s great to have the experience to test herself in the competitive Ohio racing stakes.”
Having impressed during a limited Australian racing campaign last summer, plans are afoot for Kayla to again compete for GBN in the 2018-19 season.
“We are hopeful of having Kayla back home driving the #74 Maxim during her College holidays, but it will be a case of finding the required budget,” suggested Trevor Green.
“We would like to have her in the car for a stint from Boxing Day through to the Australian title in Brisbane during January.
“Again we are hopeful that a suitable sponsorship deal can be organised.
“We are fortunate to have had some wonderful assistance over the years, and it would be great to be able to add another element to Kayla’s development over the next Australian season.”
