• Anybody who has attended the last couple of shows at Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway will know just how big this Saturday night’s event will be when both Sprintcars and Dirt Modifieds hit the track. Originally washed out on November 14, the rescheduled round four of the Supercheap Autos Sprintcar Track Championship will see Andrew Scheuerle chasing his fifth consecutive feature race win. Scheurele has been unstoppable this season and last weekend proved to be his most comprehensive victory thus far, which is an ominous sign for the 20+ rivals who will again take up the challenge come Saturday night (December 5). Of the 35 other drivers who have contested the four completed rounds, only Toowoomba’s Peter Lack has been able to finish on the podium more than once, enabling Scheurele to establish a sizeable lead in the championship standings.

Lack will be back again this weekend despite a spectacular crash at the commencement of last Saturday night’s feature event and it does seem as though he might be the man most likely to upset Scheurele’s applecart. Luke Oldfield is another who crashed last weekend but is a proven feature race winner, while Mitchell Gee turned his potential into results with a runner-up finish. The likes of Kevin Titman, Steve Johnson, Brent Kratzmann, Ben Hilder, Lachlan McHugh, Callum Walker and Dave Fanning have all produced plenty of pace at various times, but none have been able to convert that speed into consistently good results. The appearance of Paul Morris on the podium at the previous round suggests that maybe he has found his dirt track mojo, but the challenge for Morris and all the others in the field is to produce their best form consistently when it matters most. Of course, defending track champion Bryan Mann returned last weekend and was solid in finishing fourth, but he will be desperate to improve upon that result and reacquaint himself with victory lane with the arrival of World of Outlaws superstar Donny Schatz just three weeks away.

Of course, if Scheurele can win this Saturday and again next week, he will match the efforts of Schatz from last season when the American won six consecutive feature races. Competing exclusively at Archerfield again this season, the seven-time WoO champion will make his first appearance on Boxing Night (December 26), with subsequent outings on December 27, January 1, January 2 and January 6 before closing out his tour at the Australian Open on January 8 and 9.

Two weeks ago, Dirt Modifieds made their first appearance for the season and put on an impressive display with a big field producing some great racing in the opening round of the Super Rooster Series. There seems no reason to think we won’t see the same level of competition this weekend for round two with more than 25 cars nominated once again to compete in what will be their final hit-out at Archerfield before their Australian Championship on January 1 and 2. Having missed the opening event, current national champion Jai Stephenson will be amongst the starters on this occasion, along with former titleholders Andrew Pezzutti, David Clarke and Mark Robinson, who drew upon his considerable experience to emerge victorious in the season opener. Victoria’s Dan Scott, who finished runner-up behind Robinson on that occasion, is returning again to take on the local stars, which includes the likes of Kevin Britten, Ray Klarich, Scott Conlin, David Ohl and young gun Lee McKinnell.

Completing a huge V8 program will be AMCA Nationals, along with Junior Sedans and Ford vs Holden vs Sigma sedans. Spectator gates open at 4.00pm with adult tickets from just $25. Early racing gets underway from 4.45pm and Sprintcars will hit the track at 6.00pm.
