If the song “Dirt Track Cowboys” were a person it’d be now old enough to get its drivers licence.
The tune that has become an anthem for Speedway fans the world over turns 17 this year and to celebrate the occasion a commemorative Sprintcar T-shirt is being produced.
“It’s well overdue that we did this,” explains the man who created it all recording artist Adam Brand, “it’s hard to believe that it’s been seventeen years since we wrote that song and we haven’t done a shirt before now. Wade (Aunger) and I discussed it recently and decided that it’s definitely time.”
Wayne Meyer from Speedway Star Apparel is currently working on the design that will incorporate Sprintcar artwork, images of Brand and Aunger and some of the lyrics of the song.
“I’m pretty excited about it actually,” says Aunger (who announces on the song), “I guess it might seem like an obvious idea to make a shirt for Dirt Track (Cowboys) but we’ve never really talked about it before. If this run is successful we might even make one every year. The artwork is coming along nicely and we’re hoping to release details of availability soon.”
Brand, a 12 x Golden Guitar-winner & multi-ARIA Award-nominee has earned 3 x Platinum and 5 x Gold albums and was again the winner of this year’s CMC OZ artist of the year.
His profile within the sport of Speedway in Australia, NZ and the USA is well known with his widely recognized passion for getting behind the wheel of Speedcars, Sprintcars, V8 Utes and more recently Speedway legend cars.
“I think it’s pretty well accepted that I’ve got methanol in my veins,” grins the artist who got his racing start in WA racing quarter midgets in the 1990’s, “and that’s never going to change. Over the years I’ve been able to combine my passion for music and motor racing and the Dirt Track Cowboys shirt is another extension of that.”
Brand has recently formed a new collaborative band called “Adam Brand and the Outlaws” and will begin touring next year after an album is released.
“There may even be a concert or two near some major Speedway events to coincide,” he teases.
Brand will carry stocks of the new shirt on the road with him in future concert dates, plus Wayne Meyer will sell them across Australia at the various Speedway events he caters for.
The shirt will also be made available online.

Speedway fans can well attest, that with the imminent release of the first ever Dirt Track Cowboys Sprintcar Shirt it will be a case of “if this doesn’t turn you on you haven’t got a switch.”
