• JEFF Leisk is gunning for more appearances this summer when the AHG Sprintcar Series fires into life on October 18.

The former WA champion only managed to race three times towards the end of last season with work commitments taking priority.

“I am aiming for 10 to 15 shows this year, that is the goal at the minute,” Leisk said.

He said last year a franchise distribution opportunity came up, and, along with spending many weekends away working, they were too committed to go racing.

“I am certainly looking forward to getting more races under my belt and we are pretty much ready to go for opening night.”

Despite a limited racing schedule in recent years Leisk said he had been working on his fitness in the off-season, saying it gets harder to race the older you get.
“And going racing is good motorvation to get fit.

“We are sticking with Maxims and KRE engines, not really changing anything, just refining a couple of thing and sticking with what we know.

“We will also have a spare roller just in case we get into trouble.”

Leisk said much of his racing would be at the Perth Motorplex with the possibility of racing in Bunbury.

Give the Australian Sprintcar Championship will be in Bunbury next February the former motocross star said the South-West venue was not out of the question at this time.
Leisk hasn’t returned to Bunbury since a nasty crash two seasons ago broke his wrist, which does not give him any long-term issues.

Once again this year the very experienced Sean Carren will be Leisk’s crew chief and he will have his son helping out as well.

“Sean is pretty much committed with his business as well so 10-15 shows will be about right for us.”

Despite racing spasmodically in recent seasons Leisk is still aiming to be very competitive.

“We are a lot more organised coming into this season, I know my equipment and I know what I can do…we will definitely be aiming to be on the podium, that is our goal every night.”

He is hoping to get up to speed quickly and has scheduled practice sessions at the Perth Motorplex over the next two Wednesday nights as well as a day session in Northam before the season starts.
