• In what can only be described as a major coup, Sydney Speedway (SS) is pleased to announce that Australian speedway’s premiere presenter, Wade Aunger, will join the broadcast and commentary team for the entire 2014-2015 season.

“I am absolutely thrilled that we have been able to secure the services of Wade,” said Managing Director Steven Green, “Wade is without doubt the industries best and along with our regular commentator Stuart McCarthy they will form a formidable team”.

The SS commentary team will work together with the rest of the broadcast team to deliver top class coverage of this year’s Sydney Speedway season. Hundreds of hours of content will be produced. Footage of each event will be broadcast live at the track on a brand new 40SQM big screen using the most up-to-date technology, including a Tricaster 8000 editing suite with 3 play (replay) and interactive social media capabilities, allowing fans to not only watch but
get involved in every moment of the track championship competition.

“We’re very excited about the core commentary team and the announcement of a big screen,” said Steven Green. “Their experience and background within the sport is unparalleled, it will be the first time for many years that we have a dedicated and consistent team for the venue.

In addition to our core team, we will look at additional guest commentators to ensure that the broadcast is the best possible quality for the fans.” "I'm really excited about the new season with all the developments," says the multiple WSS, Australian and current Sydney Speedway Track Champion, "Barry and Steve will bring a new approach to things and I'm sure they'll invest heavily in some changes.

I'm also really pleased that Wade will be coming over to give Stuey (McCarthy) a hand, between the two of them they'll do an excellent job. This is a really exciting time for Speedway in Sydney and I hope it's the start of the road back."

Wade Aunger had this to say, “Sydney is such an important city in the national scheme of Australian Speedway. For a large part of the 90’s and 00’s it was the undisputed home of Sprintcar racing in this country and I think that it needs to get back to that status. It will take
some time but I think it can return to its glory days, particularly with the resources and the vision that Barry Waldron will bring to the table.”

“It wasn’t an easy decision to leave World Series because it’s been such a huge part of my life for almost fifteen years and I’ve really enjoyed working with the teams and our own WSS team on the road. I have so many great friends at the various places we have visited over the years and I will miss that yearly contact with them, but I really believe in what Barry and Steven are going to do at Parramatta and I want to be part of it. I wish World Series all the best this year of course and I will be keeping an eye on all the results. I can’t wait to get started in Sydney.”

“For many reasons I’m returning to Sydney Speedway. I need the longer-term work commitment from a position like this and WSS can only employ me from late December until late February each year, I think I can help bring some renewed energy and innovation into
    Sydney.

I appreciate the vote of confidence that Steve and Barry have given me, I’m excited about the new electronic wizardry we’ll be using, I love working with Stewy McCarthy and I’m excited about working with the teams and fans that I know are also keen to lift the standard and the profile of Speedway.”

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to work with the WSS teams, promoters and fans of World Series in the past. It will always be a special time in my life but it is time now to focus on a new challenge and to rejuvenate the great sport of Speedway in Sydney. The flexibility that Sydney Speedway are providing me so that I can spend as much time as possible with my girlfriend Claire and my sons in Mildura each week whilst still being able to transit to Sydney for the race events and build-up.

I think Barry and Steven can achieve some amazing results over the years and I know that they will revolutionise the way Speedway is presented in this country. I want to be a part of that.” Wade Aunger will offer valuable insight, as he is one of the foremost television analysts, having covered the sport in various roles since 1999.

Wade will also be involved in various roles including PR duties and colour commentary. Stuart McCarthy has also developed into one of the country’s leading Speedway commentators and has become an integral part of the SS landscape.

Other industry experts will join the team as analysts at many events on the calendar, bringing their extensive knowledge and inside perspective to the team.

The 2014-15 SS season schedule will be announced in the coming weeks. In addition to the LIVE digital offering, SS will be investigating both internet and linear broadcast coverage opportunities in both the Australian and international markets as well – partner announcements will be forthcoming.
