• The Easter Weekend saw the South Australian Wingless Sprint competitors contest a three night series taking in events at the Timmis Speedway in Mildura, the Riverland Speedway at Renmark and Speedway City. At the completion of the three nights of action it was Joel Chadwick who was clearly the standout performer as he claimed two A-Main victories along with the overall series. Due to his consistency Mildura based racer Shaun McClure emerged as the runner-up ahead of Brett Ireland, Wayne Kirley and Andy Thomas.

    Mildura Friday 18th April 2014

The series kicked off on Easter Friday at the Timmis Speedway in Mildura with a field of 11 cars fronting for action. Throughout the night the racing was extremely close with Brett Ireland, Joel Chadwick and Shaun McClure all taking a heat win.
Therefore all three of the heat winners secured a position in the top six dash, along with Darren Burgess, Mitch Gladman and Wayne Kirley. Chadwick went on to win the dash and therefore qualified on the pole for the final. Once the green flag fell Chadwick would dominate the final and he went on to defeat Shaun McClure, Mitch Gladman, Brett Ireland, Darren Burgess, Wayne Kirley, Andy Thomas, Jason Gantz, Angelo Halacas and Anthony McMillan.

    Renmark Saturday 19th April 2014

Night 2 saw the drivers take to the tight Riverland Speedway venue but unfortunately the event only attracted a field of 10 drivers but it was still a quality field as local racer Lucy Evans, Brad Evans and Bronson Mauro joined the field in the place of the Victorian based drivers who competed the night prior.

Chadwick continued his winning form in the opening heat as edged out Kirley and McClure while Lucy Evans led the field home in heat 2. The lady racer would back up with another win in heat 3 with Chadwick crossing the line first again in heat 4. As the numbers were down the drivers were given a third round of heats with Ireland adding his name to the winners list before Chadwick made it three from three in the final preliminary.

After remaining undefeated Chadwick continued his run in the A-main as he defeated Ireland and McClure in what was a polished display of Wingless Sprint racing. Lucy Evans faded to fourth after starting on the front row with Anthony McMillian, Jason Gantz, Andy Thomas and Bronson Mauro completing the finishers.

Speedway City Sunday 20th April 2014

The final night of competition attracted the biggest field of the series at it was conducted in front of a near capacity crowd at Speedway City. Not only was it the final round of the Easter Trail but the event was also the final round of the Universal Metal Cleaners Speedway City Track Championship.

As he has for a majority of the Speedway City season former Australian Champion Todd Wigzell was again the class of the field as he won the 25 lap finale ahead of Jarman Dalitz and Robert Heard. Chadwick could only manage a fourth placed result but it was good enough to win the series with regular 360ci Sprintcar racer Dan Evans rounding out the top 5.

Earlier the heat winners included Wigzell (2), who was extremely impressive in his opening heat win as he stormed from the back row, Dalitz and Heard.

    Overall Easter Trail Points:

    1st S25 Joel Chadwick 193.5
    2nd S23 Shaun McClure 167.5
    3rd S71 Brett Ireland 166.0
    4th S7 Wayne Kirley 153.0
    5th S22 Andy Thomas 144.5

The next event on the South Australian Wingless Sprint calendar will be this Saturday night at the Murray Bridge Speedway as the NOS Race Parts Track Championship Final is conducted in support of the Australian Super Sedan Championship.
