• On a night where he had so much to race for Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal settled straight back into the groove at his home track Sungold Stadium, Premier Speedway, Warrnambool to claim night number three of the Flying Horse Bar and Brewery Easter Sprintcar Trail of 2014.

Veal had been super consistent on the opening two nights of the Easter Trail, having recorded two podium finishes in the opening two rounds, trailing only the white hot Daniel Pestka in the points standings leading into the final night of competition.

On what was a slightly slower track than most anticipated for qualifying South Australian Matt Egel topped the charts with an 11.439 second pass, while for Veal a late qualifying draw and a subsequent lap of 11.527 seconds was enough to have him record the fifth fastest lap of the night, securing a coveted front row start in the process.

Easter Trail points leader Pestka, was solid if not spectacular in qualifying with a lap of 11.826 which was enough to secure him 18th fastest in the 52 strong car field.

The big news from the time trial portion of the night came when crowd favourite Max Dumesny secured the third fastest qualifying time with an 11.500 seconds, only to hurt his primary power plant in the process. With son Matt already making use of Max’s secondary motor for the night it would prove the end of what had been a strong Easter Trail campaign for Max!

The opening bracket of heat races for the night saw wins go the way of Darren Mollenoyux, Trevor Green in a flag to flag result in heat two, Tim Rankin in similar fashion in heat three, while two of the pre race favourites Steven Lines and Jamie Veal also made short work of their respective heat races to garnish valuable points along the way.

The second round of heats saw the fastest qualifiers head to the rear of the line-ups and with it all before them, the action as always as red hot.

The sixth heat of the night would see the demise of the Jack Lee as he rode out a wild ride in turn one, thus putting an end to his Easter campaign on a night that started strongly with a third place result in his opening heat. Chassis damage would consign Lee to the role of spectator for the rest of the evening.

It would eventually be Matt Dumesny who would fly the flag for the Dumesny fans, with the heat win ahead of Brad Keller and Matt Egel.

Heat seven saw Jeremy Cross salute, with the big mover being Trevor Green who was able to make his way to third despite losing brakes in the dying laps aboard his SA4 entry.
Heat eight on the program was again action packed with Kris Lacey riding out a violent succession of flips in turn three, with Tim Rankin joining Lacey as a casualty of the ultra tough heat racing.

John Vogels would take the win from West Aussie hard charger Kris Coyle who was really finding his feet and some genuine car speed in the process as he rim rode his way around the Sungold Stadium high banks.

Heat nine saw some Glen Sutherland produce the goods to win in another flag to flag heat result with Jake Smith and Peter Milnes filling the minor placing’s before Adam King did likewise in the final heat of the night.

After what can only be described as yet another amazing season ending fireworks display from Tim Perrett and his team at Profire Pyrotechnics, it was all systems go for the C-Main which took to the track after a short rain delay and some minor track work.

The result was another flag to flag result with Jeremy Cross getting the job down in a 15 lap race time of 3:06.44 as he made the transfer to the back of the B-Main along with Kristy Ellis, Mitch Foster and Matt Dumesny.

The B-Main followed immediately on track and the racing surface was once again beginning to widen out, giving hope to those buried a little deeper in the ‘B’ than they had hoped!

Again the rim riding antics of West Aussie Kris Coyle were on show for all to see as he pedalled his way to victory with Michael Cunningham, Nick Lacey and Peter Milnes all pencilling their names in for the all important A-Main event as presented by the nights Naming Rights Sponsor Red Ed’s Sheds.

After an aborted, due to an incident involving both Michael Cunningham and Tim Rankin, first start before an appreciative Premier Speedway Easter Sunday night audience, it was Trevor Green and Matt Egel once again sharing the front row.

Green would get the initial start, however it wasn’t long before Veal, who qualified from position four wheeled his way to the race lead and began to stretch the legs of the SWI Engineering Maxim.

At the mid race point, despite holding a strong advantage, Veal was far from a sure thing as once again the consummate professionalism of Grant Anderson came to the fore as he began to wheel in Veal in what promised to be a classic contest.

It wasn’t until Veal was able to slice his way by two lapped cars in turn two, that he had secured the required buffer to be in sight of a memorable Easter Trail win, a win that had some pretty handy benefits associated with it!

As the chequered flag flew for Veal, with Anderson in second and the impressive Trevor Green in third, it began clear that Veal had captured more than just the round win. He also had done enough to edge South Aussie youngster Daniel Pestka from atop the overall points standings as well as claiming his maiden Parr Motorsports GF1 Chassis Premier Speedway Track Championship.

Following the top three across the line were Steven Lines (4th), Darren Mollenoyux (5th), Daniel Pestka (6th), Shaun Dobson (7th), Jay Waugh (8th), Kris Coyle (9th), Nick Lacey (10th), Matt Egel (11th), Peter Milnes (12th), John Vogels (13th), Luke Nash (14th), Quentin Tanner (15th) with Chad Ely being the last car running in 16th place.

The ever popular Super Rods were also on show for their time honoured Super Rod Cup.

Heat race wins went the way of Shaun Walsh, Ewan McKenzie, Daryl Nelson and current Victorian Champion Michael McDonald.

The final was yet another top advertisement for Super Rod racing as the field battled continuously over the 20 lap journey that was punctuated with only one caution.

The deserving winner of the 2014 Super Rod Cup was Dale Walsh aboard his trusty S69 machine, ahead of Michael McDonald whose rookie season continues to go from strength to strength while Michael Coad rounded out the top three just edging Howard Stansfield from a podium result.

The 2014 Easter Sprintcar Trail rounds out the 2013-14 season at Sungold Stadium Premier Speedway, Warrnambool, with some big events in the pipeline for 2014-15 Speedway continues to prosper in South West Victoria.
