• THE battle to be the 2013-14 AHG Sprintcar Series champion is shaping up to be a battle between Luke Dillon and former series winner Jamie Maiolo.

Dillon leads the way on 2423 points heading into the Grand Final at the Perth Motorplex tonight following his stirring drive in The General Firecracker 50 at the same venue last night.

He won from Ian Loudoun and Jason Kendrick and enjoys a five-point buffer over Maiolo on 2418 points.

They appear to be the two most likely to win the championship but in this game don’t assume anything with Brad Maiolo lurking in third on 2401 points, just one ahead of Mark Wells on 2400 while Kendrick is a bit further back on 2394.

The series will be determined on the finishing order in the 30-lap Gold Cup Grand Final feature race that pays 150 for the win, 146 for second, 144 for third, with two point increments running down the order from there.

Someone like Brad Maiolo or Wells could still win the championship but they will be relying on the front runners to finish well down the order or DNF and they would need to be on the podium themselves.

Stranger things have happened in this sport and given it is the grand final, rest assured the boys will be going as hard as they possibly can.
But Dillon is pretty confident after the win.

Earlier in the night he said the car was feeling pretty good and that they had sorted out some minor issues with the set-up of the #26 machine.

“I am confident we can win…the first two Chase races we didn’t do too well,” Dillon said during the night.

“If I can go well tonight and tomorrow we should win.”

    He is halfway there.

Will he do it on Sunday night and put his name in the record books as well?

Be at the Perth Motorplex to find out.
