• Kerry Madsen’s ‘Spring Break’ in California came to an end last weekend with the driver of the Keneric Racing/American Racing machine bouncing back from a mechanical failure DNF on Friday to close his California trip out with a ninth place finish on Saturday night in Lake Perris, CA.

“Overall it was a pretty good, CA trip for our team,” Madsen said. “We were able to pick up a win, and were in position for another one, but no real complaints on the trip, and hopefully we can stay strong back in the Midwest.”

Just narrowly missing the qualifying inversion on Friday night in Hanford, CA, ‘The Mad Man’, timed his EarthEX/GWM Products entry in 14th fastest before finishing fifth in his heat, putting him in the seventh row for the feature.

Madsen got off to a brilliant start in the feature event as he rode the thick Kings Speedway cushion to the front as he found himself up in the eighth position in the early goings of the race, until he lost power on the speedway, and was unable to re-fire, and he was credited with a 23rd place finish.

Closing out the trip at the Perris Auto Speedway in Lake Perris, CA on Saturday night, Madsen’s eight fast qualifying effort put him on the front row of his heat race, though his second place finish would mean he would start 10th in the feature event.

On another extremely slick surface, Madsen had another great racecar, as he began working his way through the field, and jumped into the fifth spot, as the laps wound down.

On a late restart, Madsen started outside of the rubber that was beginning to get laid down, and he lost a bit of track position, as he slipped back to the ninth spot, before he could get in line and go.

Once the rubber began being laid down, passing was nearly impossible, and Madsen would close the trip out with a ninth place finish.

“We were really consistent all trip long, and that is great for us, as sometimes I struggle out west,” he said. “The way we have been running is a true testament to this team, and hopefully we can shake the little bad luck we have from time to time, and pick up some more wins.”
