  • 2022 Australian Sprintcar Champion Marcus Dumesny will attempt to reclaim his National Sprintcar crown at the venue that his Family has such an historic association with and he will do so in his 2004 Classic winning Max Dumesny tribute car.

    In recent years the Australian Championship seems to bring out the best in the third-generation racer as prior to his victory in Brisbane he came up a car length short of winning the Title at Latrobe in Tasmania in 2020. Unfortunately, a massive accident on the back straight at the Perth Motorplex on Night 1 put a dent in his Title defence last season so you can be sure he will be out to make amends this weekend.

    Since debuting the new wrap on Boxing Day at Murray Bridge his results have been solid but they could have been a whole lot better as he has been close to achieving a couple of A-Main victories, both at the Avalon Raceway. During Speedweek Marcus was involved in a car destroying incident with a lapped car while in command then he was passed for the lead late in the Sprintcar Invitational.

    Outside of those results he was fourth on Boxing Day at Murray Bridge, seventh on New Years Day, tenth at the Kings Challenge and he stormed to sixth place in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic.

    “I am really proud of this car. I think it actually looks better than the original. It would be pretty cool to win a race with this car, especially at Warrnambool” added Marcus leading up to the event.

    How fitting it would be if 20 years later Marcus could drive his version of his Father’s historic scheme into Victory Lane at the very same venue.

    The 2024 Locked Down Australian Sprintcar Championship will be held at the Premier Speedway in Warrnambool this weekend with the event beginning on Friday January 26 before the Championship finale on Saturday night (January 27).
