• One of the biggest fields assembled in many years have nominated for this weekend’s fourth round of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series, proudly presented by Opal Finance, to be held at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway.
Thirty one cars have nominated for the event, plus four Juniors will also be in the pits, making this the biggest event in recent years and with some huge names in the field, it is anyone’s guess as to who will walk away with the gold.
Last time at the Collie Speedway, just over a year ago, it was Matt Brown who bested Glenn Carstairs for the win and with both drivers in this weekends field they will be hoping to repeat those efforts and in the process bank some valuable series points.
Interestingly, nine of the top ten from that last Collie show are nominated (and eleven of the twelve finishers), so quite a few drivers have track experience and will be hoping to put that to good use.
Cody Turacchio, Ryan Higgs and Steven Ellement have each claimed a West Coast Series round win so far this year, Higgs making the most of his Ace Card to now be leading the series points with Ellement, by virtue of his consistent results, holding down third while Turacchio is languishing in seventh place after a horror run in Kalgoorlie. All three have spent plenty of hours getting their machinery right for this weekend and will be determined to be the first to grab multiple feature race wins in season 2020/21.
Steve Carter is sitting second overall and will be looking to maintain that position in the overall standings after this weekend while his teammate Tyler will be looking to bounce back after a heavy rollover at Kalgoorlie and move his way up through the rankings also.
Chris Dymock is fourth overall and will be looking to get back onto the podium while Mark House will be hoping to make up for the disappointment of missing the last two shows by having a good run in Collie. They will be joined by two big names, Luke and Jamie Nardini, who make their first appearances of the season and with good results at Collie in the past, this duo won’t take long to be mixing it with the front runners once again.
Jeff Ross cut some practice laps at the Perth Motorplex tonight and looked strong aboard his freshly recoloured #72 machine, while others including Ted Street, Jacob Priest, Troy Samwell and the Della’s Carl and Damian will be looking to build on their series points after some strong performances at Esperance and Kalgoorlie.
Ken Worrall makes his first appearance of the season this weekend and will be joined by a whole host of other names like Darren Rodwell, Craig Noakes and mother son duo Amy and Nash Waldron as part of the strong field of competitors set to hit the Collie clayway.
Joel Watson, son of former WA Speedcar Champion Tom Watson Jnr, is another addition to this weekend’s field and will actually make his racing debut, joined by fellow rookie Nikita Donohoe and a whole heap of other competitors.
Racing will beginwith hot laps and heats prior to the dash and mid pack events and the all-important feature race.
Make sure you do not miss this one!

    Juniors Back On Track
This weekend at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway is the fourth round of the Stainless Fastener Supplies West Coast Series and as has been happening for most of the season so far, the Junior Formula’s will also be on the program, proudly supported by HTEC Bunbury.
Four drivers have nominated for the event, with Flynn Roser, Lauren Hedington, Marcus Pages and Rhys Cumming all excited to be getting back on track.
Roser made the long journey down to Esperance recently to do some demonstration laps and he certainly impressed the crowd in attendance. From all of us at Formula 500’s WA Inc, we would like to thank him and his family for their dedication and hope he has a good run this weekend.
Marcus Pages ran the Pithara show a few weeks back and looked impressive as he got more familiar with the car, eventually coming home with a second place in the feature. He will relish the experience to race on a new track and should put on a show Saturday night.
Lauren Hedington also had her first hitout at that same Pithara show and as she got more laps under her belt, certainly got faster. A good run this weekend will see her confidence grow once again and it won’t be long before she is matching it with the rest of the field on a regular basis.
The final piece of the junior puzzle for this weekend is Rhys Cumming, making his debut on Saturday night. The wide open spaces of Collie will be a great learning ground for the youngster and he should enjoy his first competitive run.
Some added incentive for the Juniors this weekend is the support of Mick and Leticia Hamon from HTEC Bunbury who are on board as the major sponsors for this weekend. A huge thanks to them for providing vouchers for each of our competitors: every incentive counts for these youngsters and the support of Mick and Leticia from HTEC is very much appreciated.
Make sure you are at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway this weekend!
