• Gary Higgs has finished eleventh in the Speedway Sedans Australia, National Super Sedan Title, after two nights of intensive racing against Australia’s best drivers.

Going into the final night, Higgs was in 20th position, just outside the automatic qualifying cut-off of position of sixteen.

Higgs would need a strong result in his final qualifying heat to secure a position, and to hope that others around him on points faltered sufficiently for him to automatically transfer to the main event. As luck would have it, that is how it played out, with Higgs starting the final qualifying heat of the National Title, requiring a first or second placing to advance. Higgs would finish second to Victorian veteran Mick Nicola in heat twenty, elevating the West Australia to the eighth and final row of the grid of automatic entries into the 40 Lap Title decider.

In the madness that can be the first few laps, Higgs would drop as low as eighteenth, as a spate of stoppages dogged the first ten laps of the race. As drivers around him, either spun or were involved in other incidents, Higgs would soon be in eleventh place and by lap ten, as the race finally found a rhythm. Higgs would have a good battle with Mick Nicola Snr and Phil Barton, along with Paul Blenkiron, throughout the final half of the race, which would have a long green period to the chequered flag.

Higgs came away from the title in eleventh, a meritorious result against Australia’s best.

The car will now return to Western Australia, to compete in the final rounds of the domestic series and State Title in April to be held in Albany.
