• Drouin Speedway hosted the previously postponed February round of the Gold Cup Series on the 1st of June which also was the Gippsland Zone Mini Sprint title and the win went by the way of the closest resident to Drouin, Warragul’s Matt Parsons who led home new entrant to the division Dave May & Kevin Bomford.

A small field arrived to take part with Owen Milton the Victorian state champion preparing for some racing in Queensland and the Ferguson father and son team of Stuart and Luke whom have both won finals this season not nominated due to work commitments.

Three heat races produced three different heat winners with Parsons, Bomford & May taking a win a piece.

Parsons (# 73 Elite Metals – Twister) off the pole position led all the way in the first heat defeating Jason Lynn in a strong drive ahead of May. Fourth was Bomford then Danny Milton & Jack Day.
Bomford did exactly the same when he led from pole position to the finish of the second heat ahead of Parsons, May, Lynn & Milton whilst Day (# 59 supported by Victory Lane Racegear & R1 Yamaha powered) spun off the track and was not counted as a finisher.

Finally in his new Suzuki powered Henchcraft out of Queensland, May made the most of his pole position to win from Lynn, Milton (# 21 Lewis Engineering – Bomil), Bomford, Parsons and Day in the last heat.

May lined up in pole position for the final with Parsons alongside then then Lynn the third top qualifier with Bomford, Milton and Day completing the field.

A great race long battle between May and Parsons seen the # 73 car of Parsons leading initially before May made a passing move stick taking the lead. May’s time in the lead was short lived though when he moved off his line and Parsons ripped back through into the lead. Parsons took the win from May, Bomford (# 32 Elite Metals – R1 Yamaha/Stealth) who was in third all the way and then Lynn, Milton & Day.

Parsons was chuffed with the win. “Its great to have another strong car enter the division with Dave behind the wheel. It was a terrific race in the final and Drouin prepared us a great venue to run on today. Thanks to all my supporters and my brother Dean for all his efforts also. It’s been a great season and I hope to race against all these racers and more next season.”
