• After edging out Rusty Hickman in a dramatic finale at the Murray Bridge Speedway last season, South Australian Mark Caruso will be out to defend his Australian Prosprintcar Championship at the Avalon Raceway later this month, but in order to do so he will have to overcome a major disadvantage, he has never raced there.

“Yeah, it is going to be tough. Over the years I haven’t really had the chance to race there as we have followed the Allstars, and we never really had the budget to take the 410 there so I will go into the Title without any track experience. I have watched a fair bit on you tube and I have talked to a lot of drivers who have raced there so we will just head to Avalon and see what happens” added Mark recently.

Going into the Championship Caruso has had a tough run in the Prosprintcar ranks this season but without doubt his highlight has been a runner-up finish in the South Australian Prosprintcar Championship at the Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier.

Prior to winning the Australian Championship in 2023 Mark had previously been on the podium as far back as 2011, finishing third behind Ryan Jones and Michael Lovegrove, before duplicating the feat again in 2014. Caruso is also a previous South Australian Champion.

Therefore, Mark will definitely have a tough assignment as he attempts to win the Australian Prosprintcar Championship back-to-back but it’s not an impossible task as it has been done before, with the likes of Ryan Jones and Kaiden Manders achieving the feat.

The 2024 Australian Prosprintcar Championship, presented by Dirt X Ind, will be held at the Avalon Raceway in Geelong with the event beginning on Friday April 12 before the Championship finale on Saturday night (April 13).
