  • The 2019-20 season couldn’t have started in better fashion for Grant Anderson, after he last Saturday night at Moama’s Heartland Raceway drove to victory in the opening Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series round.

After the completion of the qualifying events, the Vic # 37 Monds Motorsport / WASP Steering & Suspension supported Maxim driver had performed strongly during his two heat races, which included a win, and was scheduled to start the feature race from the inside of the second row. In what was a stroke of luck, just before the commencement of the 30-lap event, the pole sitter Corey McCullagh suffered a mechanical issue and was forced to retire, which elevated Anderson to start from pole position.

Making the most of his fortune, Anderson got off to a great start at the drop of the green flag and took control of the lead. Despite the tricky slick track conditions, and with the benefit of his rivals fighting amongst one another for the minor podium positions, Anderson managed to dictate the pace all the way and remain unchallenged through to the fall of the chequered flag.

For Anderson, it was back-to-back Heartland Raceway feature-race wins following his victory at the track late last season and his fifth career feature-race win at the NSW-Victorian border track.

As one would expect, Anderson, who back in the 2017-18 season opener scored his maiden Valvoline Raceway feature-race win in sensational style, was thrilled to get his 2019-20 season underway in the best possible fashion.

“Getting back behind the wheel of my race car for the first time in six months was a great feeling, but to be able to celebrate the occasion with a win makes it even better,” the Albury, NSW-based racer expressed.

“The team had done a fantastic job with the car’s setup throughout the night and we were able to get ourselves a good starting spot for the feature race and then I was able to come hold up my end of the deal and drive to the win.”

Anderson continued by saying that this is the perfect start to what is going to be a busy 2019-20 season with a total of 26 race meetings along the east coast on the team’s calendar.

“Anytime you can get a win is a good thing; however, when you can start the season with a win is great for the team’s confidence for the rest of the season,” commented Anderson, who last season at Premier Speedway drove to his maiden World Series Sprintcars round win.

“Our team is really looking forward to the rest of the season and our aim heading into every race meeting is to win, and I, along with the rest of the team, are confident that we are capable of challenging the country’s best racers on any given night.”

Apart from running a schedule mainly based around various Eureka Garages & Sheds Series and Ultimate Sprintcar Championship NSW rounds, Anderson is going to be contesting the Grand Annual Classic at Premier Speedway, World Series Sprintcar Championship rounds over the Christmas-New Year period and potentially the Australian 410 Sprintcar Championship at Latrobe’s Gulf Western & Independent Oils Raceway in Tasmania.

The next 2019-20 season outing for Anderson and the team is going to be this Saturday night’s second Eureka Garages & Sheds Sprintcar Series round, which doubles as the annual Fireball Derby, at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway.
