• Greenacres Sprintcar driver Lachy McDonough returns to the drivers seat this weekend at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge as he takes on Australia’s best drivers, but it is nothing compared to his most recent outings behind the wheel of the Bill Rose #6 in California. After an unexpected phone call on the eve of returning home to Australia, McDonough was thrown into a three-week racing campaign “out west” racing against the World of Outlaws.

McDonough’s Californian racing stint was slightly overshadowed by the fact that both Jock Goodyer and Jamie Veal were also competing in California at the same time, but the South Australian held his own as he filled in for contracted World of Outlaws driver Bill Rose.

“Initially I flew over to be the Car Chief for Anthony Macri and we had a pretty good run including at Knoxville where we ran 5th at the Nationals and then won 7k at Lincoln Speedway. I was then packing my bags to head home after the High Bank Nationals at Husets, and I got a phone call from Bill (Rose) about 2 hours before I was meant to fly back to Australia. Went back and forth to see if I could make it happen and it fell into place as I was lucky that Garrett Williamson had a spare seat so I could ride out to California with them. I am super thankful to their team for allowing me to tag along” added Lachy when we spoke shortly after he arrived home.

Once everything was finalised, I flew my brother out for the three weeks to help with everything. The cars are so different than here in Australia with the wings, tires and just how they react. I was lucky enough to make two feature races and qualify 12th at Tulare. We all learnt so much racing against the Outlaws for the season ahead at home, starting with this weekend at Murray Bridge. We have a completely new package that I’ve been building up this week, so we are looking forward to getting on track against a tough field of cars” he added.

The Bill Wigzell Battle of the Bridge and the Australian Sprintcar Stampede will take place at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway this Saturday and Sunday Night’s.
