• The Speedway Sedans Australia, National Super Sedan Title takes place this weekend with one of the biggest fields in recent years assembling at the Borderline Speedway, Mt Gamier.

Gary Higgs is one of five West Australians in the field and is feeling confident of a strong showing, after competing exclusively on the East Coast for the first three months of the season.

The preparation for the title was hampered somewhat by a spectacular crash at Hobart Speedway in January, which forced the team to abandon plans to race in the South Australian Title, also at the Mt Gambier venue, with the team bringing the car back to Western Australia for a complete health check.

The damage to the car was not as bad as first thought, which enabled Higgs to make an unscheduled start in the fourth round of the Super Sedan Summer Series, at the Make Smoking History Bunbury Speedway in February.

After a slow start to the night, Higgs was able to charge through the field in the Feature Race, to finish third behind son, Dustin Higgs and fellow veteran Kevin Bell. In a race that was reduced by five laps due to time, Higgs potentially would have won the main event, such was the speed and set up of the car in the concluding stages.

Higgs is really looking forward to the challenge this weekend against the Nations best.

“It is really unfortunate we weren’t able to compete at Mt Gambier in the SA State Title, so it will be critical to get plenty of track time at the practice day, to provide us with plenty of data for race night”, said team owner Dustin Higgs.

The car was brand new off the show room floor in November 2019, with Higgs immediately putting the car on the podium, with two heat wins and five top ten finishes to his credit prior to the crash at Hobart.
