Blake Iwanow and Beau Oldfield lead the West Australian Junior Sedan Title after the opening night, both with 100 points, after an extraordinary night of racing at the Make It Hardware Narrogin Speedway.

The duo were both part of a record breaking night, which saw the existing eight lap track record lowered five times, while the one lap record was also lowered.

The opening heat of the night saw newly crowned National Champion, Mitchell Baker lead all the way, however he had it far from his own way, hounded consistently by Riley Dunne, who challenged consistently for the lead, with Brody Day finishing third.

Heat two would see a great three way battle for the lead with Izak Davies, Jonty Barnsby and Seth Hinsey racing in close proximity throughout the eight laps. Sadly for Davies, a flat tyre on the last lap robbed him of some big points, as Jonty Barnsby downed Hinsey by a car length, while Blake Palmer drove a good race to come from position seven, to finish third.

Beau Oldfield would start the sequence of records in heat three, lowering the track record to 2.45.087, taking 0.573 off the old mark. Oldfield would win comfortably, with Bryden Southwell and Dean Schofield having a great battle for the minor prize, with Schofield beating Southwell to the line for second place.

Oldfields tenure of holding the eight lap record, lasted just one race, as Blake Iwanow lowered the mark to 2.44.995. His drive was simply brilliant as he also lowered the one lap time to 19.886, the first driver in the history of the Narrogin venue to go under twenty seconds for a lap. Iwanow would easily account for Izzac Delaporte and Zoe Young.

Brandon Buszan, not to be outdone, also broke the track record, in demolishing the opposition in heat five. Buszan won by more than six seconds, as the new eight lap time became 2.44.556. Rory Elsum-Beaumont came from position six to finish second, while Brooke Sutton finished third.

Amazingly, four of the five drivers that won heats in the opening round of competition, all found themselves in heat six, with Blake Iwanow proving to good, defeating Brandon Buszan and Taj Vanzetti.

Heat seven would see Rory Elsum-Beaumont take the win after starting from position five. Kayne Dellar would feel the wrath of the stewards, relegated to fourth after finishing second for a pass that the stewards weren’t happy with. This relegating elevated Hayden Mortimer and Chloe Dellar to second and third respectively.

The records kept tumbling, with South Australian Drew Flatman breaking through to win his first heat of the title in heat eight. Zoe Young led for the majority of the race, with Flatman taking the lead with two laps remaining. Flatman lowered the eight lap record to 2.43.784, almost two seconds under the initial record time which stood prior to the title. Blake Palmer would finish third.

Beau Oldfield would get a great start in heat nine, with a brilliant outside move to take the lead, and ultimately the win, downing Brody Day and Josh Ahearn who originally crossed the line third and fourth respectively, but were both elevated when Izak Davies was relegated after originally finishing second.

Izzac Delaporte would eventually win heat ten comfortably, but it certainly wasn’t that way for the majority of the race. Delaporte had to hold off the constant advances from Cody Mackellar, who will suffer a flat tyre, with Bryden Southwell and Jared Coutts filling the minor placings at race end.

With just two minor stoppages in ten races, heat eleven would suffer a 36 minute delay when Riley Hanson and Chelsea Gwynne crashed heavily into the fence, resulting in Gwynne being transferred to hospital for observation. Upon the resumption, Riley Dunne would have to hold off Seth Hinsey in a pulsating eight laps.

Heat twelve would see Bryden Southwell lead all the way, but was never far in front of Rory Elsum-Beaumont, Blake Palmer and Blake Iwanow. Iwanow would start from position eight, and after a great mid race battle with Palmer and Beaumont, the defending Champion got the better of the duo, before setting out after Southwell. Southwell though, would hold his nerve, winning narrowly.

Heat thirteen would see Drew Flatman split the eye of the needle in turn one, a move which ultimately paid off and got him the win. Beau Oldfield and Taj Vanzetti who started from positions six and eight respectively, would finish second and third.

Heat fourteen saw Jye Irving become the fifth driver to break the eight lap track record. Irving won comfortably, taking 0.712 seconds off the time set by Flatman. The Victorian won comfortable, accounting for Kurtis Blackburn and Zoe Young.

The final heat of the night, didn’t disappoint, with a great race between Kayne Dellar and Cody MacKellar, while Brody Day and Izzac Delaporte would have a similar battle for third. Sadly, Delaporte would suffer a flat tyre on the last lap, while Dellar would hold off Mackellar by a car length, to cap off a great opening night.

Racing commences at 6.00pm on Sunday night.
