Gary Higgs had a solid night at the Gulf Western and Independent Oils Raceway on Friday, putting the West Australian into twelfth place after the opening night of the Super Sedan Grand Prix.

Higgs started the night well, taking the lead in his opening heat race, however, former National Champion, Callum Harper came from deep in the pack to pass both Higgs and Mick Nicola with three laps remaining to take the win.

In heat eight, Matt Williams defeated Mick Nicola Snr and Higgs, in a close race, however Higgs was unable to pass either driver in the ten lap heat race.

In the final qualifying heat the Higgs contested, he would be engaged in a close battle with Michael Miller and Steve Latham, but would have to be content with fifth place at the chequered flag.

Higgs would qualify on the fourth row of the grid in the first of the two Preliminary Finals, and would ultimately finishing sixth.

“There were some quality drivers in front of us on a very fast race track”, said Higgs. “The tracks not too bad, we will try again tomorrow”, he added.

Further qualifying heats will be held on night two (Saturday) before the main event.
