Kyle Sayer and Clint Hadley last night won the opening round of the South West Sedan Championships for Production Sedans and Street Stocks respectively, claiming the feature wins at Manjimup Speedway after what was an exciting, but bruising, night of racing.
Sayer went through his heat races undefeated to start the fifteen lap Production Sedan final from pole position alongside former National Champion Rod Musarra, who claimed two heat wins and a second place in the preliminaries.

As the race went green Sayer would take the lead while Musarra sat in second place, followed by Clint Noakes and Aydan Trewern, guest driving the Finlay Mills #71 machine.
Trewern would pass Noakes on lap four to take third place and then set out after Musarra, with Noakes shortly after heading infield.

Sayer continued to lead, racing his way through lapped traffic lapped traffic as Musarra found himself under pressure from Trewern, eventually succumbing on lap thirteen. Sayer would go on to take a solid win from Trewern, Musarra and Jake Avins, who fought back from some earlier issues in the heats and starting in position eleven to finish in a fine fourth place.

In the Street Stock final it was former National Champion Mick Hamon and former WA Champion Hayden Norman who would share the front row, followed by current State Champion Barnewall and former WA Champion Wayne Thomson.

Barnewall would be the man who eventually made his way to the front, the whole field putting on a a great display of racing.

However, as the race was about to come to its conclusion, Barnewall suffered a flat tyre coming down the main straight, allowing second placed Hamon to close the gap. Hamon went high coming out of turn two to pass Barnewall but the two cars made contact, Hamon hitting the wall heavily and bringing out the yellow lights for the first time in the race.

Both cars were unable to restart.

This allowed Clint Hadley to inherit the lead for a green white, chequer race to the finish and he made the most of it, racing away from the rest of the field to claim the win, with Jace Kempton in second and Wayne Thomson third.

Also on the program were the Top Star and New Star Junior Sedans, with Matthew Thomson and Luke Martin taking the respective wins.

Manjimup Speedway will again fire into life again tonight and although the opening round of the South West Championships is over, the Street Stock Stampede is still up for grabs. With a number of cars expected to join the field tonight, it should be another great night of action. Production Sedans and Junior Sedans will once again also be on the program.
