• West Australian Super Sedan Champion, Chris Pavlovich has won an entertaining A Main at the Make Smoking History Collie Speedway on Saturday night, which was round three of the Super Sedan Summer Series.

Pavlovich and Kyle Larson would start on the front row for the twenty lap decider, the best result for Larson in the series to date. The second row would have Manjimup’s Ryan Gunson and Kevin Bell, while Lee Aylett and Zac Minshull would start on row three.

Pavlovich would get the best of the start over Larson, Bell, Gunson, Minshull and Aylett, in a spectacular start. Larson would drop to tenth on lap three with a spin, which effectively end his chances of a podium finish.

Lee Aylett would shred a back left tyre while in sixth place, bring out the first caution of the A Main.

Adyme Harvey was making all the moves in the race after starting from position nine, the spectacular racer had moved to third and was challenging Bell for second place, with Pavlovich opening a handy break.

A late stoppage for Damo Wallinger bunched the field again, but Pavlovich with clear track ahead of him, opened a handy lead once more. Behind the State Champion, a thrilling battle between, Bell, Zac Minshull, Warren Minshull, Aydme Harvey and Ryan Gunson intensified as the laps ticked down.

Gunson made a bold move in turn four, where he passed both Minshulls and Harvey to claim third.

Pavlovich would win comfortably, with the minor placings being separated by just 1.462 seconds, with Bell holding off Gunson, both Zac and Warren Minshull and the desperately unlucky Adyme Harvey, who made many moves throughout the race.

It was the second Series win for Pavlovich this season, having also won the opening round at Narrogin, with the top three on the podium at the Collie round, completely different to that from round two at Manjimup.

Earlier, on a great night of racing, the six qualifying heats were won by six different drivers, the first time that has happened in three seasons. The drivers were faced with varying track conditions from slick to hooked-up as the temperature soared to almost 38 degrees, but all in all the track was in great condition.

Lee Aylett made the best possible start in his first race in the series, leading all the way in the opening heat to defeat Ryan Gunson and Pavlovich.

Zac Minshull, in just his sixth Super Sedan event, led the first four laps of heat two, before Kevin Bell took the lead. Minshull would fight back and the pair would be joined by Adyme Harvey and Kyle Larson, in a great four way run to the flag, with just 1.437 seconds separating the four of them at race end.

Warren Minshull and Kevin Bell would start on the front row for heat three, with Minshull making the best of the start and held off Bell throughout, setting the quickest time of the night of 18.172 in the process. Adyme Harvey would finish third.

Kyle Larson would win heat four, in another very close race, with Pavlovich and Gunson trying everything to pass Larson. Pavlovich and Gunson meanwhile traded second place behind Larson throughout, with Larson winning narrowly.

Zac Minshull led the early laps of heat five, however, Chris Pavlovich soon took control and had a comfortable victory, downing Minshull and Kyle Larson.

The final qualifying heat was held on a slick track, with Steve Larson recording a popular victory. He narrowly defeated Lee Aylett and Ryan Gunson, with fourth placed Warren Minshull having the quick lap of the race, but just couldn’t find a way through. Meanwhile, Kevin Bell hit an immovable object, the concrete wall, which took him out of the race and a race against time, to prepare for the Feature event.

The fourth round of the Summer Series will be held at the Augusta Margaret River Speedway on Saturday, 18 January 2020.
