• Gary Higgs did some remarkable things on Saturday night at the Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway, when the West Australian contested round four of the McCosker Super Sedan Series.

Considering the car had not seen daylight until late yesterday afternoon (Friday), the Higgs team were on the pace from the very opening heat at the Brisbane venue.

In the opening heat, despite finishing fifth, Higgs was only 1.695 seconds off of second place, after having an interesting battle with Barry Craft for the duration of the ten lap heat.

Heat three would provide Higgs with a heat win, almost unbelievable, considering that the car virtually rolled off the factory floor only 24 hours earlier. Higgs had a great battle with three-times National Champion, Darren Kane, making an excellent passing move to take the lead on lap two. Kane then hounded Higgs for the remainder of the race, but Higgs held firm for a narrow victory.

The top eight drivers then draw for positions in the A Main, with Higgs drawing position five.

Higgs would stay in fifth place through the opening laps, before dropping to sixth place, as a result of a move by Darren Kane.
Despite the racing being close, Higgs remained in sixth position until lap 22, which saw the demise of Justin Randall who was in second place at the time, which elevated everyone up one position. At the same time, Higgs passed Bob McCosker to move to fourth. Higgs found himself in a late battle with Trent Wilson, while having to hold off the fast finishing Sam Roza who started from the back row.
Wilson would hold off Higgs by 0.380, while Higgs held off Roza by just 0.019 in a thrilling finish.

The race would be won by Matty Pascoe, who has now won 55th career A Mains since 2010.

“The car went without and issue all night. Took him (Gary Higgs) a bit of time to get used to the steering set up. The new KRE engine was superb, extremely happy with it and how the new car bites forward”, said car owner Dustin Higgs.

Higgs will next compete in the Queensland Super Sedan Title at the Kingaroy Speedway, on Saturday, 14 December 2019.
