• On what proved to be an extremely slick track due to unseasonal Easter weather Warrnambool’s Jamie Veal put on a driving clinic as he backed up his win at the Avalon Raceway to capture Round 2 of the 2019 Easter Sprintcar Trail at the Borderline Speedway in Mount Gambier. After setting the quickest time his qualifying group he won his first heat before finishing fourth in heat 2 and he then went on to lead all 30 laps as he defeated David Murcott and John Vogels.

After starting from position 12 Brock Hallett stormed his way to an impressive fourth, while Grant Anderson bounced back after a tough night at Avalon to round out the top five. B Main transferee Daniel Pestka, Rusty Hickman, Peter Doukas, Corey McCullagh and Craig Vanderstelt completed the top 10.

After running third for the opening stanza of the race McCullagh was sent to rear of the field during the opening caution of the race after he mistook the yellow light for a red and stopped on the back straight requiring a second push start.

The main casualties of the main event were Tasmanian Champion Jock Goodyer and Avalon podium place getter Luke Walker. Just prior to the mid race point Goodyer tagged the turn 1 wall and rolled hard and unfortunately the teenager took Walker out in the incident.

Earlier the eight heats saw eight different winners and with the first round of preliminaries placing the fastest cars from qualifying on the front row all the heat winners from round one started off the front.

Jamie Veal won the opening heat after inheriting the lead from Matt Egel, who slammed the turn two wall after a steering failure. Corey McCullagh won the second heat before David Murcott and Jock Goodyer joined the winners list in heats 3 and 4.

With a complete grid reversal in round 2 heat 5 went the way of Colin Brooks, who was piloting the Mark Skidmore owned 360ci, while Tasmanian Nick Penno, Matthew Reed and Grant Stansfield completed the heat winners.

Bobby Daly, Jessie Attard, Stansfield and Kris Johnson moved out of the C-Main while Matthew Dumesny, who was substituting for the injured Jake Smith, Daniel Pestka, Luke Walker and Marcus Dumesny transferred to the 18 car A-Main via the last chance qualifier.

The only driver to go upside down during the heat races was Rob Paton, who rolled over all by himself while leading heat 7.
