• This Saturday night Nyora Raceway plays host to the Somerville Motor Body Works Victorian Junior Standard Saloon title, the Miles Cup for Standard Saloons supported by Miles Mechanical along with a mini feature for Sports Sedans and the visiting Compact Speedcars from 5pm in what will be a terrific nights racing.

The pinnacle event of the Junior Standard Saloon season is this weekend with some kids in the event for the last time trying to win one whilst others have time ahead of them.

With last year’s Junior Standard Saloon Victorian champion now in adult racing a new champion will be crowned regardless of the result this year with a number of kids in particular in great form behind the wheel. Jack Yeomans, Lewis Williams, Deegan Benson, Courtney Meakins, Kacey Ingram, Damon Ingram, Harry Cecil and Rhys Lansdown in particular are drivers to keep your eyes on this Saturday night.

Always hard to pick a winner, and often the thrill is to see youngsters make the top five or finish the race that might not have expected to. That will happen again on the weekend, however Nyora are keen to have the Victoria number one on top of one of their drivers cars.

The Miles Cup for Standard Saloons is the last opportunity to text cars on Nyora Raceway before the Victorian title on March Labour Day weekend and last events winner Marcus Reddecliffe is at the top of the nominations list, with competition expected from a number of race drivers including Jack Brennan, Mark Miles, Stephen Douglas, Aaron Marshall, Warrick Howie, Scott Whittle, Russell Hill, Craig Templeton, Hayden Clifford and Brendon Miles.

This race is too hard to pick, the bragging rights leading into the Victorian title is so very important and getting this win to honour the Miles family is also high on the priority of many that have known the family for years.

The Sports Sedans and Compact Speedcars have been added to the show and Nyora member Jamie Paull the current Victorian Sports Sedan champion will be trying to win a mini feature in that class and compete for victory over his brother Justin, Louis Rodriguez and Jack Day in the open wheel Compact Speedcar he will also be racing.

It is expected a dozen or so Sports Sedans will compete and Paull leads the list that includes Josh Service, Ally Morrison, Wayne Alberni, Darren O’Brien and Gemma Laidlaw amongst others that should make for tough competition and in the Compact Speedcars a handful of competitors are just pleased to get a last minute call up to compete at what many of them consider their home track. Louis Rodriguez won here last time he competed, it is great to have the Shepparton driver come down to race again.

Racing starts from 5.00pm, costing $20 for an adult, Kids 12 to 16 are $10 each whilst all other children are free, Pensioners are $10 & a Family ticket is $50 for 2 adults and three 12 – 16 kids & others less than 12 in age.
