• Redline Raceway and Belmont Speedway Club Sports Sedan race driver Daniel Carter is having a great season in the Sports Sedan class, a class that he has been competing in for less than two seasons with his already impressive regular top three results at club level boosted by a sixth position run in the Flying Brick Cider Co Sports Sedan Masters.

Carter was competing in his EA Falcon powered by a 250 Ford Crossflow race engine and started the feature event back in fifteenth place before working his way forward and climbing to sixth spot by the time the twenty five lap feature event ended.

Moving forward that many places is an impressive performance in any motor sport event, to do it when some of the state’s best are in the same field gives it that extra bit of glory. In a tough night early for the team Carter was unable to finish two early qualifying races with flat tyres before finally putting a finish on the board in his third run with a second placed finish behind top four qualifier Dale Smith in the same field.

The finish of the qualifying put Carter in the feature event field from fifteenth with a bit of work to do in front of him. Carter got straight into it moving forward a couple of spots on lap one and a few more on lap two to be in tenth place. By lap fifteen the Redline # 37 Falcon was in seventh spot and closing in on a top five finish with ten laps to go. The last ten laps though were tough racing with some very good campaigners in front of Carter and once in sixth with nine to go he followed the very fast Jake Drewett the winner, Leigh Bourke one of the event organisers, Chris Rieck, Dale Smith and Craig Phillips to the finish.

After the race Carter had a chat to media representative Dean Thompson. “I am very very happy with this result Dean. To come from so far back in the field and to have the quality of competition that finished ahead of me the only ones I could not beat, is satisfying. I would have been kicking myself if I thought I had something in the tank left, however I gave it my all. We will go home now and tinker a little more with the car and see if we can find that extra percent to put us further up in the results next time.”

Carter was the recipient of an event award supported by DMT Sports Media and Dean Miller Photography that rewarded the highest placed newish driver in the feature event with a media release.

Carter comes from a family with a history of dirt track racing and he himself before joining Sports Sedans was a Daylesford Club Street Stock racer and won the club championship at that club in 2011/12.
Carter’s brother Heston used to be a racer and his brother-in-law Wayne Knox and his children Corey and Kayla are a racer family. In fact Kayla and Corey were both in this race on Saturday night competing. Daniel’s uncle Ian Wetzel also was a competitor with the whole family starting out at the Daylesford club.

Carter hopes to continue his consistency and figure in the top three in the Redline Sports Sedan Club Championship this season.
