The Speedway Sedans. Mental Racewear, National Street Stock Title is now less than three weeks away, with a massive entry list of 135 set to do battle at the Timmis Speedway, Mildura.

Thirty seven year old, Chris Hay from Warrnambool will be one of those driving his VZ Holden Commodore.

Although Hay has been racing for twelve years, this year has seen Hay race only a couple of times with mixed results, as he has only recently finished building the new car in preparation for the National Title.

He is no stranger to the big events though, having competed at Redline Raceway in 2016 in the biggest title in Australian Speedway history, and in last years title at Adelaide Motorsport Park, which also had well over 100 competitors, both of them events he wishes to forget, so Hay is hoping it will be a case of third time lucky.

Despite living in Victoria, Hay has never raced at Mildura before and will be looking forward to the experience.

I like the friendships and just the joy of racing a car, Hay said when asked what he loves about Street Stock. I am really looking forward to the the trip away for a few days swimming, racing and a few social beers.

Hay has set some realistic expectations for the title. I would personally be happy to finish all my heat races with half decent results and no damage, or no major damage, he added.

Like most, Anthony Beare is the driver Hay believes is the one to beat. If its not him then there is always McClure, Clarke, Bates, Jennings and Mick Dann. I always go for the underdog or someone who has not won one before, he said.

I am a firm believer of supporting the smaller tracks that struggle with car counts, so I will always race at them before others if there are multiple places to race on the weekends. Without our constant support these smaller clubs may not be around for ever, Hay continued.
