• Even though only a small contingent from Victoria will be heading to Brisbane for this years BK Trading Australian Sprintcar Championship they may in fact provide the greatest opposition to the current Champion Kerry Madsen. The Victorian nominations for the event include Warrnambool residents James McFadden and Jamie Veal, former National Champion David Murcott, Grant Anderson and Jack Lee.

McFadden is already a two times Champion and was victorious at the last Australian Title staged in Brisbane in 2013, leading home David Murcott. Whenever McFadden turns up to a race, he is always a contender and his recent results show he is in great form having won at Warrnambool on New Years Day and finishing as the runner-up at Avalon in the Presidents Cup. He also started the year in a blaze of glory winning five feature races in a row in the Northern Territory. McFadden was the runner-up last year at Mount Gambier and he would love to win a third title at a venue he once called his home track.

Dual National Champion David Murcott will pilot the #88 Victory Lane J&J and he will head to Brisbane in great form having won back to back feature races at Warrnambool this season (Victorian Title & Max Race) along with a runner-up finish and Borderline during Speedweek. Murcott has scaled back his racing this year but he is always towards the front when he shows up to race. Prior to winning the Title Murcott had finished third and second in the title so he knows what it takes to be successful at the National Title.

Over the past seven seasons Jamie Veal has won over 50 A-Mains and won just about everything in Australian Sprintcar racing but the one race he hasn’t won is the Australian Championship. He has graced the podium on two occasions with a best result of third at Bunbury and Warrnambool (2015 & 2016) and with his recent performance at Brisbane, losing to Donny Schatz by a car length, he has recent speed at Archerfield. With Jamie back in his own car for this year’s title tilt he may be hard to beat.

The remaining Victorian entries, Grant Anderson and Jack Lee, can’t be discounted either as Grant Anderson is on a career high after capturing his first ever World Series Sprintcars victory at Warrnambool. Last year Anderson won his qualifying night A-Main at the Classic, so he is capable of winning big races. His Dad David finished second at Carrick in 1991 and I’m sure he would love to go one place better.

Since joining World Series Sprintcars as a contracted driver Jack Lee has become one of the most improved drivers in the country and his recent association with James McFadden has proven that his equipment is as good as it gets. Jack Lee may just surprise a few people, if everything goes to plan, he could easily achieve a top 10.

The 2019 Australian Sprintcar Championship at the Archerfield Speedway in Brisbane will be conducted on Saturday January 26 and Sunday January 27, 2019.
