• Official release: Sprintcar Control Council of Australia

The Sprintcar Control Council of Australia and the greater Australian Sprintcar Racing industry is mourning the loss of one of its most valued members.

Peter Craft passed away in Sydney on Sunday morning December 9 after a lengthy battle with cancer.

Peter was respected and revered on so many levels within the sport of Sprintcar, Wingless Sprint and general Speedway racing in Australia.

Over a period of many decades he relished various aspects of Sprintcar racing including driver, car owner, crew chief, mechanic, race official, race director and chief steward.
Away from the track he was a vigorous volunteer and was the recipient of the Sprintcar Control Council of Australia Award of Excellence in 2016 for his contributions.
He was on the committee for the Sprintcar Association of NSW for many years offering a sensible, balanced and valued viewpoint on a range of topics – many of which benefited from his cool and global approach.

He was pivotal in bringing together the Australian Wingless Sprint community and the Sprintcar Control Council in a period of uncertainty.

As a chief steward Peter was respected as a fair and consistent principal who obviously had years of racing himself on the board as a yardstick for the actual driving intricacies.

He and brother Richard have been the owners of the legendary "Craft Differentials" business in Granville which is only a short drive from the iconic Valvoline Raceway/Parramatta City Raceway.
The Craft Brothers have had a profound influence and impact on the venue and the competition held at it for decades.

Many racers regard the duo as major influences on their own racing careers.

Many administrators regard them as forefathers of the sport with an extensive pool of experience and knowledge.
As a person Peter was a friendly, jovial and often very private person who refused to acknowledge his own contribution but openly praised others for the same.

He was a passionate vintage car collector and pilot.

A proud Husband, Father, Grandfather, Uncle and Brother.
Peter Craft was a friend to many in the Australian Sprintcar industry and a pivotal part of its administrative structure.

The Sprintcar Control Council of Australia acknowledges Peter's enormous contribution to our sport and offers its sincere condolences to the Craft family and friends..

    Vale Peter Craft.
