• SHAUN Bradford had one of the best strike rates going when he fronted for a sprintcar round in the 2017-18 season, something he hopes to continue when the new season starts at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday, October 27.

Bradford has had a limited racing budget and schedule in recent years, but the third-generation racer said it worked well for him and his family - and it is something that he is keen to do again this year.

In the lead up to the new season starting, we asked him if last season met his expectations.

“Yeah we did meet them,” Bradford said.

“We wanted to go out and do well in a limited amount of races and we managed to do that and get a fair few wins and a lot of podiums for the races that we did.

“We crashed out of the state title - one of the ones I really wanted to try and win.

“I have come second and third and fourth, so that was probably the biggest down for the season, but apart from that we had a lot of ups.”

Bradford said the highlight of last season was the three A Main wins.

“And all the podiums - we ran second to Jason Kendrick in the World Series Sprintcars Grand Final (at the Perth Motorplex) and I wanted to win that, but it was still a good result considering the calibre of the field we had,” Bradford said.

The driver of the popular #57 said one of the reasons for doing so well last year was the package they had developed - the team spent a bit of money and got a good car and “we just had everything right”.

“And I think doing less racing and better racing - it worked for us.”

“We don’t have the time (to go racing more) and our lifestyles have changed - it’s just me and my brother (Casey), so just having quality rather than quantity for racing seems to work out best for us.”

There have been no major changes in the off-season with the Bradfords sticking to a similar game plan for the new season.

They are not sure of their exact schedule yet but expect to contest the first four to five shows and see what happens after that - and having a break over the Christmas period.

“The break is better for our family and it is also better for our budget, so we will just have a break and then go racing again when World Series Sprintcars comes along and then keep racing to see out the season, if we have done well.”

    The goals are pretty simple.

“Try and win A Mains again,” Bradford said.

“I want to win a World Series round and I want to win a state title.”
