• Expect something different from the Cowara/Jak Civil #41 Sprintcar team during the upcoming 2018-19 racing season.
Team owner Steve Duggan will be kept busy running two different cars - one based here in the west and the other in the eastern states.
Leading Northern Territory driver Chace Karpenko will pilot the same #41 Maxim car that was used last season.
Karpenko will run at select shows in WA, starting off with the season opener at the Perth Motorplex on Saturday October 27.
Also pencilled in for the Cowara/Jak Civil team at this stage are the annual Kings of the Wings event at Kwinana on Saturday November 17 and the WA Sprintcar Championship on Saturday December 18.
The team will also contest most of the Bunbury Speedway rounds.
Victorian driver Darren Mollenoyux, who impressed in the Cowara/Jak Civil car last summer, will form the other part of the team.
Mollenoyux was right on the pace in his WA appearances, plus also brought the #41 car home eighth in the Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at Warrnambool, and finished fifth in the Australian title at Mount Gambier.
Duggan has sent a new chassis and motor over to Mollenoyux, with the plan being to concentrate on the race meetings being held at his home track at Warrnambool, Avalon and Mount Gambier.
It will be a joint venture between Mollenoyux and Duggan, with the Warrnambool Crane Hire, Parr Motorsports, Cowara/Jak Civil entry - numbered V52 - contesting the opening meeting at the Avalon Raceway this weekend.
"Darren showed how good a driver he is last season in the #41 car," Duggan said, "And I am very happy to work with him again this year.
"I saw Chace run in Darwin back in August and he was very impressive. He and I have done a deal that will see him run select shows at the Motorplex and Bunbury."
Karpenko was in brilliant form at the Northline Speedway, winning three of the early events before racing to his first Northern Territory Sprintcar Championship in August.
The annual Chariots of Thunder Series followed and Karpenko was confident of a good result, having previously finished second and third in the series.
A record 42 car field from right around the country was on hand for the four round series.
Karpenko showed he was very competitive with a second and a third, but problems in the other two rounds saw him seventh overall on points.
He then ventured down to Alice Springs and crossed the line third in the Dance in the Desert event there.
WA Speedway followers may remember that Karpenko competed at the Perth Motorplex over a decade ago, winning the 2005-06 WA Late Model title and finishing second a year later.
