After Day One of the Brian Rose Memorial at Ellenbrook Speedway, there is a three way tie between Mick Hamon, Jamie Oldfield and Warren Oldfield on points after the opening three rounds of heats.

All three drivers claimed two wins and a second place to be even at the conclusion of night one, with just their lap times determining the order, while Jamie Oldfield would also go on to claim the preliminary feature.

Behind the leading trio in overnight points is National Champion Anthony Beare on 95 points while Victorians Lenny Bates and Brad McClure round out the top six on points.

Heat racing action was fast and furious, with three and four wide action the name of the game across all twelve of the heats, the biggest incident of the day being when Simon McNab barrel rolled a number of times in turn three of his opening heat. He emerged unhurt but his weekend was over early, while Rodney Passamani suffered a similar fate after a big crash down the back straight into the pit gate. Craig Clayton has also indicated he will not return for Day Two, while others including WA Champion Hayden Norman have had nothing but trouble despite showing some great speed.

The preliminary feature race was held for the top twenty point scorers, with just money on the line and five drivers electing not to start, allowing others to work their way into the starting field.
Oldfield got the jump at the start but it was Lenny Bates from position three who shot past him in turn two to lead the opening lap.

Oldfield raced back around him while Beare also got back by, while behind them Jace Kempton, Evan Wakefield and Jack Barnewall all had moments that they somehow managed to regain control in.

As Oldfield and Beare pulled away Brad McClure began to make his presence known on Bates, while De Goldi behind him also came on strong, McClure and De Goldi then coming together and clouting the front straight wall heavily to bring out the yellow lights.

Neither car would restart, while Oldfield would lead away and set out building a big gap on Beare who in turn had a big gap on Bates, but it was all for null as the yellows came on with eight laps remaining for a spun car.

Again Oldfield pulled away as Peter Herbert made the big moves to grab third place from Bates while Daniel Ameduri also looked for a way through. As Herbert made a move on Beare for second, Joss also challenged Ameduri and Bates as the laps wound down and the action heated up.

With two laps remaining Carl Pickersgill and Daniel Pidala came to a stop in turn four to set up a green, white chequer finish.

From here it was all elementary as Oldfield held off Herbert and Beare in what could be a prelude to tomorrow’s all important Brian Rose Memorial final. Racing begins from 11am.
