• Alexandra Speedway Club’s ‘Trax Racewear’ Junior Sedan feature night has been run and won with three important Junior Sedan races decided with victory going the way of two of Alexandra’s own member drivers and another to a visiting Goulburn Valley member, on a night where records were scorched in all categories.

Lilydale’s Kasey Garlick, Kilmore’s Rhys Meakins and Numurkah’s Tristan McGraw all took race wins in the Junior feature events whilst Gary Evans won the Standard Saloons, Liam Powell the Goulburn Oven’s Sedans and Steve Kershaw from Healesville won the Sports Sedans.

The nationally aligned Junior Sedan Promotional Association were holding the latest round in their state point score with A Grade and B Grade features for their members and both features were won by local Alexandra competitors.

The A Grade Junior Sedans had attracted cars from Warrnambool, Geelong, Bendigo, Penola South Australia to compete against the Alexandra regulars and four heat races were held to decide feature race qualifying positions.

Ricky Cornwall was first to win with Garlick picking up the second qualifier and the third whilst Cornwall won the final qualifier putting both the local members off the front row of the feature race field with Mitch Glynn, Brad Gartner, Jack Ramsdale and Todd Moule on the next two rows.

Fifteen laps awaited the starters for the final, Garlick assumed early control of the race. Jack Ramsdale was fast in fifth before spinning himself in turn four and keeping the car moving and having to charge back through the field.

Cornwall had a fight on his hands with Glynn and Garner with Glynn the first to succeed in passing and setting about a chase on Garlick. Garlick and Glynn in the later stages of the race were brought much closer together as they weaved through traffic, whilst Gartner passed Cornwall to take over the third spot.

At the line Garlick took the race win by just .143 of a second and a new fifteen lap track record, Glynn, Gartner, Cornwall and Ramsdale completed the top five with Ramsdale carving up the track setting a new one lap record on his way to fifth spot after his earlier spin, his time 22.672 a new record by just .002 of a second.

In B Grade Juniors Bella Rizzoli from the Ballarat club started the night with a win before Rhys Meakins won the next two qualifiers and Rizzoli again picking up a win in the fourth making it two wins apiece. Meakins and Rizzoli began the feature race ahead of Bradin Claridge, Chloe Sheerman, Linken Paterson and Holly Harris for a twelve lap final.

Meakins quickly assumed a clear advantage with Rizzoli having to dig in and try and claw her way back towards the leader. Harris made moves forward passing Claridge with Luke Cornfoot and Jarred Brown also scrapping for position.

A couple of caution periods during the race bunched things up and also unfortunately the final caution caught out Cornfoot and Brown for indiscretions at the single file starting bollard which would see them after the race put to the rear of the results.

At the chequered flag Meakins took the win from Rizzoli, Harris, Claridge and Breanna Simpson.

The state governing body Victorian Speedway Council also had a feature event decided for their Juniors with a healthy twelve cars starting the nights racing. Some great quality competition that included recently registered Lachlan Fitzpatrick and Tristan McGraw seen the two Goulburn Valley drivers really take it too the local kids.

Fitzpatrick won the first qualifier, Toby Carmichael won the second, McGraw the third and then Fitzpatrick won the fourth and final qualifier to decide the starting line up of Fitzpatrick, McGraw, Carmichael, Jack Brudenell, Connor Donegan and Janie Patton for the final.

Fitzpatrick who had earlier had two wins and a second placed qualifying finish looked the most likely to go on to win the feature race, however as we have seen many times before, somebody so dominant can be brought undone and mechanical issues did just that to Fitzpatrick when it looked like a win was assured.

After Fitzpatrick pulled infield and out of the race McGraw controlled the pace from there and stretched his lead out to over six seconds as he greeted the chequered flag ahead of Mansfield youngster Brudenell, Courtney Meakins, Connor Donegan and Troy Higgins.

In support racing Gary Evans won the Standard Saloon final ahead of Warrick Howie, Aaron Meakins, Trevor Evans and Greg Parks and along the way the winner set one lap and eight lap track records through the night.

Liam Powell won the Goulburn Ovens Sedan Association final from his brother James with Peter Little third from Jamie Atkin and Justin Granger and in the Endeavour Petroleum supported Sports Sedans Healesville racer Steve Kershaw took victory ahead of Jack Van Bremen, Lee Beech, Steve Akil and Daniel Eastham.

The next meeting to be held will be on May the 12th with Crash and Bash the feature event of the evening as all classes compete through the dog leg circuit.
