• In one of the biggest upsets seen in recent years local Warrnambool racer Corey McCullagh has claimed the 2018 South West Conveyancing Grand Annual Sprintcar Classic at the Premier Speedway. After starting from position nine McCullagh picked off the leaders one by one on the bottom of the racetrack taking the lead from Brooke Tatnell with 8 laps remaining and from that point he was totally dominate at pocketed $30,000 and one of the most prestigious trophies in Australian Sprintcar racing.

“From about lap five I knew I had a bad fast car and I am kind of a gutter rat anyway and tonight the track really suited my style. I can’t believe that I won but my car was that good it was going to pretty hard to stop me” added Corey on the podium.

After starting from position nine he also took home the Hard Charger Award.

Second place went to Carson Macedo who got past Brooke late in the race with the three times Champion recording yet another Classic podium.

Australian Champion Kerry Madsen finished the 40-lap finale in fourth while another former Classic Champion Steven Lines rounded out the top five in what was a sensational motor race.

Shaun Dobson had a great weekend as he recoded a sixth placed finish while Luke Dillon, Darren Mollenoyux, Cory Eliason and front row starter Peter Doukas completed the top 10.

The race saw a number of red light stoppages including one on the opening corner as Luke Oldfield rolled after contact with Glen Sutherland. Oldfield’s demise gave Jamie Veal a start as the second reserve with Jordyn Brazier having already replaced young South Australian Aidan Hall, who failed to get a start after a driveline / engine issue sidelined the talented racer.

Glen Sutherland would also have his own incident later in the race along with Ryan Jones, who rolled on the back straight after contact with Lachlan McHugh.

Earlier in the day the Night 2 winner was also decided after it was postponed from the night before with Grant Anderson winning the Preliminary A-Main in similar fashion, by using the inside groove to make his way to the front. American Jason Johnson was second with Carson Macedo, Peter Doukas, John Vogels, James McFadden, Steven Lines, Darren Mollenyoux, Cory Eliason and Lachlan McHugh rounding out the top 10.

The red lights came on for a couple of incidents with Danny Reidy and Matthew Dumesny rolling in turn three while Jack Lee rode out a big crash entering turn three.
