• After a challenging start to their 2017-18 season World Series Sprintcars Championship campaign, the Krikke Motorsport team and their driver Jamie Veal came away from last weekend’s seventh round at Brisbane’s Archerfield Speedway in Queensland with a pleasing result.

While this season has delivered the team with a mixture of results, despite their speed never being questionable, last weekend’s performance has shown their feature-race fortunes taking a turn for the better, with the team backing up their recent runner-up finish in the fifth WSS Championship round with a fourth in round seven, which doubled as the Australian Open.

Placing fourth and fifth in his heat races on the final night of competition, Veal qualified for the pole shootout, winning the bronze and eventually placing third in the silver to line the WA # 2 Transport Equipment Hire / Pumpa Manufacturing supported Maxim car up in fifth place for the 50-lap feature race.

Slipping back to sixth place off the start, the Warrnambool, Victoria-based driver maintained his composure on track where passing opportunities were limited, holding his position for the opening half of the feature race, before launching himself forward into fourth place in the middle stages. Defending his line throughout the remainder of the distance, Veal went on to come home in a pleasing fourth place behind two of the world’s best drivers in Donny Schatz and Kerry Madsen.

“We just missed out on a podium spot, but we finished our weekend on a strong note which was very pleasing,” commented the current Western Australian Champion, who recorded the third fastest lap in Flight 1 of time trials on the opening night of competition, before placing third and sixth in his heat races and going on to finish inside the top 10 of the 20-lap non-stop preliminary feature race.

“It’s great to come away with another strong result heading into what’s going to once again be a busy couple of weeks with some of the biggest events on the season calendar. Hopefully we can continue to build on this form as a team and convert our hard work into winning results.”

At the completion of the seventh round of WSS, Veal sits third in the current WSS point standings.

Veal and the Krikke Motorsport team will next be in action this Friday and Saturday night for the Scott Darley Challenge at Sydney’s Valvoline Raceway (NSW).

Following the Scott Darley Challenge, the team returns to Veal’s home state for the President’s Cup at Geelong’s Avalon Raceway on the Wednesday night of January 17. The team will then head back to Veal’s home track – Premier Speedway – for the prestigious Grand Annual Classic from January 19-21, before contesting the Australian Title at Mount Gambier’s Borderline Speedway (SA) over the Australia Day long weekend (January 25-27).
