• BroomEs Warren Minshull has captured his second Western Australian Super Sedan Title victory last night at Attwell Park Speedway in Albany.

Minshull defeated Gary Higgs and Chris Pavlovich in a dramatic finish with the trio racing three wide to the chequered flag.

Beautiful conditions for Speedway greeted spectators and competitors with all twenty two drivers contesting three ten lap qualifying heats before the thirty five lap final.

The opening heat of the 2017/2018 Speedway Sedans Western Australia State Super Sedan Title saw Damon Trouchet hold off a fast finishing Gary Higgs and Lee Aylett. Kemble Aylett and Tristan Green came together on the opening lap with Green retiring from the race and Aylett being sent rear of the field.

Heat Two saw Warren Minshull absolutely dominate winning by over eleven seconds from Kyle Larson and Adrian Geary.

Chris Pavlovich collected the maximum points in heat three defeating the impressive Glenn Smith and Kevin Bell.

Kalgoorlies Dean Shore held off a fast finishing Steve Larson and Kemble Aylett in heat four, before Gary Higgs held off Chris Pavlovich to win heat five.

Minshull made it two wins from two starts in heat six where he defeated Adrian Geary and Brett Higgs. Heat six saw the first major incident of the title with Lee Aylett and Terry Green coming together at the start with Green spinning to the infield hitting the tractor tyres located well off the racing surface. Kevin Bell then had his engine let go on lap four with Lee Aylett running into the back of the stricken car causing big damage to both cars.

Heat seven proved to be the highlight of the nine heats with Warren Minshull trying for the entire ten laps to find a way past Gary Higgs with Minshull making the winning move on the last corner.

Dean Shore won his second race of the night in heat eight defeating Adam Campbell and Brett Higgs.

Heat nine saw Terry Green spin in front of the field with Peter Wallinger having nowhere to go crashing into the side of Green. Lee Aylett also retired from the race with Kemble Aylett leading home four time state Super Sedan champion Bert Vosbergen and Rob Knox.

Twenty cars would start the A Main with only Kevin Bell and Tony St Jack scratchings from the main event.

Minshull elected to start the feature race from the outside of the front row and would get the initial jump on Gary Higgs with Dean Shore who started from position three, falling back to sixth place after five laps.

Glenn Smith moved into fourth place before spinning to the infield falling one lap down on the leaders. Kemble Ayletts car also began to blow a lot of smoke with the former Tasmanian resident retiring after just five laps.

Tristan Green would bring on the yellow lights for the first time in the main event when he coasted to a stop on the race track.

A couple more stoppages would occur with cars at the tail of the field spinning bringing on the yellow lights. Damon Wallinger in his first State Title headed to the infield lap fourteen.

Damon Trouchet who experienced suspension issues throughout the evening had moved through the field from position ten to fifth before retiring from the race with more front end issues.

Minshull continued to open up a handy lead after each restart with Higgs and Pavlovich both trying their best to reel in the Broome based driver.

With sixteen laps remaining a multiple car pile occurred with Bert Vosbergen, Adam Campbell, Brett Higgs and Terry Green all getting caught up in the incident. All four cars retired from the race leaving just eleven cars for the run home.

Warren Minshull was challenged for the lead by Gary Higgs after the restart with Higgs and Minshull making contact while racing for the lead. Minshull would soon find a way back past Higgs with Dean Shore and Lee Aylett who originally started in position fifteen having a great battle for fourth.

Aylett soon began to battle with Pavlovich for third with Steve Larson bringing on the yellow lights on lap thirty.

Larson retired from the race with nine cars remaining for the five lap sprint to the finish. Minshull pulled away from the field and looked set to win his second WA Super Sedan Championship when with two laps remaining his car began to slow.

Nathan Thiele spun at the back of the field bringing on the yellow lights once more. As the field came to the restart Minshulls car would almost come to a stop backing the whole field up behind him. The stewards brought the yellow lights on with another restart called.

Minshulls car again slowed at the restart with Gary Higgs throwing everything at Minshull on the final two laps.

Higgs made a bold move for the lead on the final lap with Chris Pavlovich making it three wide on the back straight going into the final corner.

Minshull held on to win his second state title in Super Sedans from Higgs and Pavlovich. Dean Shore spun on the final corner falling to sixth with Lee Aylett finishing fourth with Super Sedan rookie Adrian Geary finishing fifth.

Kyle Larson, Rob Knox and Nathan Thiele rounded out the finishers.

Warren Minshull was elated to win the State Title once again with the winner telling the crowd at presentations that his car slowed in the final laps due to running low on methanol.

Higgs was disappointed with second place but thanked his crew for all their hard work throughout the weekend in particular his son Dustin.
