  • Victorian star Travis Mills hopes to advance another step up the podium when he contests round two of the Diamond Air Speedcar Super series during George Tatnell night at Valvoline Raceway
    this Saturday, (December 9).

Travis, who will drive a Spike chassis car powered by a Graham Racing Development Eagle, is currently placed second in the SSS point standings to Michael Stewart after a runner-up finish in SSS round one at Gunnedah.

He trails Stewart by 157 points, however Mills is quietly confident of a good performance at Valvoline Raceway after starting off the season down south on a high note.

“So far this season I have done three meetings and our car speed has been promising, so I am hoping that continues this weekend.”
He comes to VR a round one recent winner of the Avalon Track Championship at the Geelong circuit. Mills has raced at VR on previous occasions and knows what is required to win in Sydney, though he says he would like to improve on some of his past Valvoline Raceway results.

“We have had some good results and not-quite-so-good results,” Travis said. “You could say it is a bit of a bogey track for us and overall our results I think are probably a bit below par.”
He has contested the VR 50 lapper in past seasons and a few years ago was placed fourth in the race with an impressive drive.
He knows he has to “read” the Parramatta track correctly and that is a priority if he is to get into the major placings.

“We have struggled at times to read the track and that is something we will be very conscious of this weekend but I do love the track. ”
Travis Mills is well aware it is a very important night as the venue honours the late, great George Tatnell. GT is an Australian Speedway immortal who was inducted into the national Hall of Fame in 2007.
Tatnell won three Australian Speedcar titles, the Australian Speedcar Grand Prix, the international Speedcar Derby, the Australian Sprintcar Championship, the National Sprintcar Series twice and is a former state Speedcar and Super Modified/Sprintcar titleholder.
Travis says to win the Speedcar feature race named in George Tatnell's honour this weekend would be “huge.”

Mills is looking forward to the night and racing on a track he loves, with a high standard of Speedcar and Sprintcar competition this weekend.

“It is going to be something pretty special,” he acknowledged “and it would be one of the biggest races I've won if it goes that way.”
The current front running standings in the Diamond Air Speedcar Super Series are as follows:

Michael Stewart (1083 points); Travis Mills (926); Reagan Angel (517); Jimi-Ray Quinn (464); Troy Ware (357); Adam Wallis (245); Scott Doyle (190); Andy Hassan (189); Mike Griffiths (174).
