The South Australian Late Model Association (SALMA) season continues this Saturday night at the Murray Machining and Sheds Murray Bridge Speedway with a field of 11 drivers nominated comprising of drivers from right across Australia. In all drivers from four mainland states will take the opportunity to get some early season track time prior to the Australian and South Australian Late Model Titles at the venue in the new year.

Currently the local line up of Steve Vaughan, Ryan Alexander, Mark McCarthy, Roger Oliver and Darryle Launer will be joined by Victorians Mick Nicola, Zack Tyson and Fiona Verhoeven. In addition to the Victorian visitors Paul Stubber (WA), David Robertson (NSW) and Brett Watson (QLD) will also head to South Australia this weekend making it the strongest field of Late Models seen in this state since last season’s State Title.

The addition of the intestate competitors this Saturday night will certainly increase the competition with the likes of Stubber, who was on the podium at last seasons Australian Championship, and Mick Nicola, who has been a class campaigner in sedans for many years, expected to be towards the front all evening.

This weekend will see the second event of the local season with the Late Models having already raced on one occasion at Murray Bridge this season. In what was a great opportunity for the class to race in front of a large crowd on “The Ulitimate Pink Night” Steve Vaughan emerged victorious in the A-Main defeating Fiona Verhoeven and Darryle Launer.

After starting the night in spectacular fashion Victorian Cameron Pearson wouldn’t get past the opening heat. Despite winning the opening preliminary in convincing fashion it was discovered that the engine had broken a rocker ruling him out for the rest of the night. Veteran Cary McCarthy was victorious in the second heat, but he ended the main event on the infield after an incident in turn four.
