• Nyora Raceway had a jam packed house on Saturday the 2oth of May with a Demolition Derby and Car Drop finale attracting a lot of families to see the unusual and normally once a year spectacle, at the same time they were treated to traditional dirt track racing with Travis and Samantha Millar the brother and sister combination from the Eastern Suburbs picking up Wingless Sprint wins and Jason Crawford also from the East, collecting the Gran Prix Midgets feature event.

The Ladies were accumulating points in the own special point score series and Samantha Millar having already won at Nyora in the last month, was at it again this time winning a close one with Pakenham’s Renae Eastham.

Millar won an earlier heat race as did Eastham putting both as the most likely winners in the final. Millar then set about setting the fastest lap of the night for the girls in the final when she clocked a 15.991 lap time on her way to defeating Eastham by a second at the finish line with Bree Hall, Brittany Kuypers and Bianca Toogood from Lang Lang rounding out the top five.

The guys, with the addition of a couple of the lasses doubling up on racing then hard their turn with four heat races helping to set up the starting positions for the feature. Travis Millar won the first and the last of those with Todd Hobson from Clyde and Ricky Mills from Morwell winning the second and third qualifiers.

In the feature race, Millar increased his love affair with the South Gippsland venue clocking a lap of 15.153 seconds on a very quick race track for the six cylinder Wingless Sprint machines. Wayne Logue from the Morwell Logue family, took second in the final with Michael Skene, Speedway legend Peter Logue and Cranbourne’s Warrick Taylor rounding out the top five.

Grand Prix Midgets returned for their South Gippsland Classic feature which Jason Crawford won taking his second feature win at the venue for the season making it a clean sweep as far as the class is concerned,. Australian Champion Trevor Perry finished in second with Lisa Chalcraft, Paul Perry and Sean Denning rounding out the top five.

Earlier Travis Florimell who didn’t make the final after breaking his race car chassis then the Perry brothers Trevor and Paul won the qualifying races.

The Sports Sedan South Gippsland Stampede feature finished with Jake Blencowe taking the win from David Donegan, Darren O’Brien, Chris Miles and John Watson.

Support racing with the Division 2 Hot Rods concluded with a win to Scott Laidlaw in front of Brett Cianter and Ricky Low.

Standard Saloons finished with Mark Miles defeating Aaron Price, Mitch Blencowe, Justin Hutchins and Greg Williams.

The night concluded with a ripper field in the 'Sherlow Used Cars' Demolition Derby where cars were left busted up and smokin’ on the track after hit after hit, the winner was Cameron Vanes, the sponsor of the show!

Finally the 40ft 'Membreys Cranes and Towing' car drops from a crane had everybody on their feet and gasping at the destruction of poor innocent second hand cars, how anybody could treat cars like that is sacrilege, yet so much DAMN fun!
