  • Gold Coast Engineering student, Lachlan McHugh has officially arrived tonight after claiming a monumental win in the USC Queensland Grand Final at Toowoomba’s Hi-Tec Oils Speedway.

    McHugh was impressive all night, qualifying third behind Robbie Farr and a stunning Cody Maroske, and claimed a win and a runner up in his respective heats, to qualify on the front row of the A Main beside Farr who also claimed a heat win.

    With 40 laps to race in the A Main that doubled as the first round of the ClayPerView Triple Challenge, Luke Oldfield, Mick Saller and Matt Dumesny tangled in turn two on the first circulation to bring on a caution, however Farr was sent back to the second row after a false start, promoting Andrew Scheuerle into pole position for the restart.

    Farr returned serve and shot to the front before the first lap was completed relegating Scheuerle and McHugh to battle for second until half race distance when McHugh and Farr swapped the lead four times over four laps until an external medical issue in the crowd forced an open red, sending the teams into a frenzy.

    After a long delay, McHugh restarted in the lead with 17 laps remaining and led Farr until Scheuerle suffered a flat right rear dissolved his podium potential and consequently brought on another caution. McHugh then took full advantage of the restart finish and lead the stellar field home with an emphatic victory.

    The win was enough to promote McHugh to fourth in the final USC standings, dislodging Scheuerle back to fifth, while Farr claimed his third USC State Series win in the season over Luke Oldfield and Danny Reidy.

    The Queensland Wingless Sprint Title was returned to New South Wales by Daniel Flood ahead of Mark Blyton and Queenslander Adam Butler. Stay tuned for a detailed report of the race.
