Both of the J&S Drilling Team drivers Kaiden Manders and Cameron Gessner were prominent during the running of the two-night Australian 360 Sprintcar Championship at the Perth Motorplex over the weekend.
Manders started from position 4 in the 40-lap Championship decider while Gessner came out of position 7 in the 20 man field.
The teenager Manders ran in a brilliant second spot for most of the event, but both of the J&S Drilling entries failed to complete the distance.
Friday night action saw each driver compete in two 10-lap heats.
Both of the J&S Drilling drivers started in the same race - Manders coming from sixth to finish third, while Gessner raced from twelfth to sixth.
Next time out Gessner led all the way to win by 4.628 seconds, with Manders shot from seventh up to third.
In the 20-lap Preliminary main event Gessner impressed again, finishing third from position 6, while Manders started fifth and crossed the line sixth.
Finish of the first night saw Gessner fourth in the points (out of 36 cars) and Manders fifth.
Saturday night saw Manders maintain his advantage to take his first heat, while a fuel leak forced Gessner to pull onto the infield before the start of his race.
Manders started at the back (12) in his final heat and crossed the line sixth, only to be put back two places for jumping the start.
Gessner gained maximum points in his final outing.
Twenty cars qualified for the 40-lap Championship decider with Manders out of position 4 and Gessner starting from 7.
Soon after the start Manders moved to third with Gessner running in fourth spot.
Around lap 19 Manders took over second place behind Victorian star Jamie Veal.
He maintained this position until after a restart on lap 24 the right front stub axle broke on Manders' car, sending his wheel rolling down the track.
It was a cruel blow for the 19 year old who was looking solid in second place.
A couple of laps later Gessner had a steering failure and hit the back straight fence.
Both of the J&S Drilling Team drivers had done themselves proud over the weekend and deserved a much better finish.
