After the disappointment of last weekends early end to proceedings as a result of inclement weather, teams will be itching to get back on track this Saturday night (March 11) for round 11 of the East Coast Logistics Sprintcar Championship at Ausdeck Patios Archerfield Speedway. Also on the program this weekend is a strong field of Midgets contesting the Polar Ice Midget Track Championship, plus Compact Speedcars, AMCA Nationals, Wingless Sprints and Lightning Sprints.

The rain out of round ten will have no doubt proved a frustration for the likes of Luke Oldfield and Peter Lack who, having qualified on the front row for the first of the two 20-lap feature races, were denied the opportunity to close the gap even further in their pursuit of Andrew Scheuerle in the battle for the championship. Although Lack and Oldfield were the standouts, Scheurele also qualified at the front of the field (despite failing to finish his opening heat) in what has been a recurring theme so far this season as the wait for somebody to step up and challenge the top three extends into another week. There have been several drivers who have proven themselves capable of taking on and beating this trio, but nobody has been able to do so with any regularity. Whilst it is Oldfield who has the most feature wins, his absence from round four sees him placed third overall at the moment just six points behind Lack, who is just 35 points adrift of Scheuerle.

Lachlan McHugh and Mitchell Gee have won feature races this season and, whilst their talent is undeniable, perhaps it is just a lack of experience that has prevented the teenagers from securing the consistently good results they need to challenge the series leaders. Gee sits fourth overall at the moment but is more than 100 points behind Oldfield, while McHugh is currently sixth in the standings behind Brent Kratzmann. Yet to visit victory lane this season, Kratzmann is always in the mix, has been desperately unlucky on several occasions and must be due a change in fortunes. Others who have impressed in recent weeks include Callum Walker, Ben Hilder, Cody Maroske and Dylan Menz, while current Dunlop Supercar Series champion Garry Jacobsen returns to the dirt fresh from the start of his championship defence in Adelaide last weekend.

Four-time national champion Adam Clarke headlines the entry list for round seven of the Polar Ice Midget Track Championship, with an 18-car field confirmed so far. The Newcastle-based Clarke will be joined by fellow New South Welshman Adam Wallis in taking on a strong Queensland contingent. Leading the local charge will be last start feature winner Brock Dean who, along with Kristy Bonsey and Scott Doyle, have opted to step away from their Sprintcar commitments for this week to focus on their Midget endeavours. Troy Ware, Darren Vine, Rob Stewart and a couple of former Queensland champions in Rusty Whittaker and Mark George will also be amongst the starters.

Stewart and Vine will be very busy on the night with both drivers also competing in Compact Speedcar events, chasing that elusive feat of winning two feature races on the one program. They are both consistent feature winners in the Compact ranks, but if fatigue becomes a factor, the likes of Wayne Corbett, Nathan Mathers, Jim Kennedy, Trent Usher, Chris Pidgeon and Dave Collins will be more than happy to take advantage.

Also in action will be the biggest field of Lightning Sprints so far this season with 14 cars entered to take on Australian champ Kurt Wilson, who successfully defended his NSW Title in Sydney two weeks ago. AMCA Nationals and Wingless Sprints are also on the program, with gates opening at 4.00pm and early racing from 4.45pm. Sprintcars will hit the track for time trials at 5.30pm and the main show will get underway at 6.00pm.
